WELCOME

TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF
ORCHIDS

From Wellington, the Capital City of New Zealand
Jewel of the south pacific

This extensive non commercial site covers many orchid related matters covering a side range of subjects and aspects.
The site includes articles of general interest and of more specialised nature.
The articles will be of interest and and assistance to all orchid growers, both those just acquiring the orchid growing bug, and more experienced growers
The specific cultural advice is based on bark culture as practiced here in New Zealand, and as is also used in many countries around the world. The general cultural principles discussed are relevant to all orchids, and indeed to all plants.

ATTENTION ALL VISITORS

Fortune City has recently installed some 'advanced' technology regarding its handling of graphics. This as often resulted in the FortuneCity graphic replacing the page graphics.

The site help advises that the difficulties with graphics can be overcome if cookies are enabled in your browser. I have, however, still experienced difficulties, and because of this and other problems have now mirrored the site on other servers. The FortuneCity files still operate, but all main pages and fully updated files are located elsewhere. To access THE ALTERNATIVE SITE click on the either of the following graphics.

Site index frames
The frames version is recommended

The site contains extensive links between pages. These have been changed to the new servers, but some may have been missed. If you experience problems refer to the main index pages as links there should have been fully updated for all pages.

The Fortune City notes on this graphics issue are :

Why am I getting a FortuneCity logo instead of my image?

You might have noticed that some images are not loading correctly within your website. They are displaying as a FortuneCity default image with our logo and url. This is because you do not have cookies enabled within your browser. You must enable cookies in your browser for you to see your web pages to load properly.

We have recently implemented some new technological magic. This magic is reliant upon your use of cookies.

Ours is not a typical usage of cookies. We DO NOT use these cookies for tracking behavioral web use. The cookie is one element of our plan to eliminate warez and cracks downloads, increase our available bandwidth, and diminish misuses of our 100 MEGs of Free web space. We have found our bandwidth double after implementing this technology and have seen an increased loading speed of member sites such as yours.

We feel it is a clever way to use a technology that was originally developed for a different function. We have found that the majority of web surfers have cookies enabled within their browses and therefore decided on this magical approach to the problem. In no way do these cookies compromise the privacy of any web surfer or you the web site builder, it actually makes the user and web surfer experience at a FortuneCity site better, easier, and smoother.

To enable cookies follow the following, browser specific directions:

Internet Explorer

Select Tools > Internet Options
Select the "Security" tab on the top
Use the slider to make your security setting "Medium" or lower (High disables cookies)
Select OK

Netscape Navigator

Select Edit > Preferences
Select Advanced
Select either "accept all cookies" or "accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server"
Select OK

Unfortunately they do not appear to consider what happens if cookies are not activated or the reaction of such visitors. From a number of complaints received it is obvious some visitors have left the site annoyed. Don't be; use the alternative site.
