i, and welcome to my website! (And apologies to anyone who's had trouble getting parts of this site to download recently... I'm working on it! The avenger stuff should be okay now and I'll finish sorting out the railway side of things soon, I hope! In the meantime, if you find photo's etc missing feel free to e-mail me and I will send you some)
First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Terry Price (that's me, the ugly mug on the left!) and this site covers a couple of my interests, namely my Avengers, and the railway in the garden. The Avenger project started in Feb. '99 when I finally got rid of my old Avenger estate, which had served me well for over six years, but fell foul of the tinworm. In what I can only describe as a moment of weakness I acquired an Avenger saloon two weeks later, from the same lad who had taken the estate! The "new" Avenger was a 1300 dl, - soggy suspension and drum brakes all round -, dating from 1974/'75 so I couldn't even get free road tax.
Further bouts of weakness saw me installing suspension, disc brakes + servo, a 1600 engine (complete with 2 inch exhaust and twin weber carbs) from a grp2 Avenger rally car. This isn't as easy as it sounds! Every step had it's problems, and every solution brought forth more problems. Still it goes (very well if you don't mind the noise and the shaking!), it's got an MOT and I managed to get it insured with a specialist insurer after my normal broker said NO!!!!
There's a lot more yet to do before I get it how I want it and, as progress is made, I'll keep you informed.
In another moment of weakness, however, I've just gone and bought another estate! More of that later....
On to the garden railway then. This is an SM32 scale line (that is, 16mm=1foot on 32mm gauge track), based on a preserved slate and passenger carrying line set here, in North Wales. The motive power on the line consists of both live steam(gas or meths fired) and battery powered locomotives, most of which are scratch built or modified proprietary items. The rolling stock is generally scratch built or kit bashed. The buildings are built brick by painstaking brick from cast cement blocks, and the main station building is actually a scale model of our home, with a canopy and platform added on of course.
At the moment a large slate quarry is under construction, to give the railway a purpose in life. Again I will keep you informed but, if you would like more info on any of the above, or to talk about a related topic, feel free to E-mail me on terryprice@supanet.com (only if you have something friendly to say, though!)
