Or the Saga of Web building

This page is to thank all of the companies and people who have assisted me in the construction of this site.
I initially started on December 25th 1999 with the grandiose idea of constructing a web site for my company.  So! easy I hear you ****** experts say, not quite so I say.  I opened my copy of Freelance graphics and copied my hard worked brochure to Lotus save as a web page, which promptly opened the Outlook Express browser window.  Shock horror, all the hard work getting the colours to be just so went up the Swanee, as I could not recognise any colour as the one it was supposed to be.

Next effort, open MS word 2000, copy brochure to the clipboard and then into word, graphics came up fine, changed backgrounds and patted myself on the back I had a wonderful website.  All that was left to do was check it out in MS Front page, the files were duly transferred and nothing happened!  Opened the help pages for the first time, found I needed to create something called a navigation map.  The help pages were followed, or so I thought, when I stumbled by accident across something called FRAMES and this appeared so much easier as I did not have to create a map etc.

Reconfigured everything into frames, opened viewer, by this time I had switched to Netscape, and the nearly a site looked magnificent.  I could even get from page to page and back again.  I am now ready to publish, or so I thought
January 12th 2000,  in Front page, clicked the wonderful button called PUBLISH your web site, filled in the box to Netscape etc. cliked GO.  It did not go anywhere just came back with a stupid message saying your ISP does not support Front page please find a provider who does.  This was tried several times in sheer disbelief that I could not get my pages up, I had never heard before of surfers droop.

Frustration had now set in, called it a day, but wait there was something on the Netscape box entitled FTP.  This was duly clicked and lo! and behold! there was the answer to my prayers.

File Transfer Protocol, thinks I to myself here is a way to fool the system, I will squirt up the Front page files and they will not be detected.  Not so.  Transfer all files into MS word, try again having secured all the relevant passwords etc.  Terrific, I am now a Webmaster with my own site.  Typed in the address, was aghast that was not my site, well leastways, it was but not as good as the viewer had pretended it to be.  Went surfing instead, accidentally got onto some site offering me 20 meg of free site.  Signed up with Fortune city, went back to Front page which came back with that familiar message I had read so often.  Tried squirting up from Word using FTP, some went up and some did not.

Whilst taking the Fortune city tour I found a free package that said it was for IDIOT people to compose their own site, sounds just like me. Signed up for Trellix, opened their wizard, composed my pages and pressed publish fully expecting the normal go away message to appear.  Not so, I now had a website looking something like the viewer said it should.  A MIRACLE had been bestowed upon me.  Now I could start work on improving the site.  After the best part of one months frustration I had acheived more in a few hours with Fortune city and Tellix than I, in my wildest dreams, had thought possible for a non computer literate, non clerical, one fingered typist, practical engineer.
