Everquest Tales

Dragon

The world of Norrath offers an infinite number of experiences and possibilities. Here is a collection of great stories of things that have happened to myself and other guild members in their many adventures.

If you want to include your own tales on this page, just send me them via E-mail. For reference also send me your member name and what level you were when you had the experience. Stories should be exciting or interesting to read and it would be helpful if they contained correct naming of places and people involved. If you have any screenshots to go with the story, send them as well in jpg format with descriptions.

Pub Crawl
Name: Sech (Before I restarted as a Paladin)
Level: 1

It took pace on my second day in the world of Norrath as a Wizard. Exploring around checking out all the new shops and sights of Qeynos, I bumped into a Paladin named Blazinup. I started asking him questions about surviving outside Quenos. Then he asked me if I had got pissed in the game yet. I said nope and he took me to one of the pubs, The Lions Mane Inn. Then he ran off to use his bank vault a minute and returned with TEN beers for me. Ohhhhh yes! Always one to accept free alcohol, both me and him swigged 'em all down. As well as my alcohol tolerance skill rising, my view went absolutely trippy and when I tried to talk, it came out like jibberish. Yep - I was wasted alright. I thought I was gonna chunder. Me and Blazinup ran round in circles for a while and after a bit I sobered up. Next I wanted a kebab but unfortunately the local shopkeeper didn't sell them. I put a note on the board in the corner of the bar saying that I got pissed there thanks to Blazinup. Then he bought me some more beers and we stumbled to another bar, pub crawl stylee. In there we met Bannoin, a Wizard friend of Blazinup. After getting pissed again, I decided to try out some spells in the pub. Bad move. The barman kind of objected to me firing Frost of Shock at the wall of his establishment, and decided to call over a couple of guards. Before I could even say I was sorry, the guards promptly beat me to death with axes. What a bitch. Damn bouncers. I was soon back in the pub swearing at the barman and telling some blatantly over the top pub stories till early hours of the morning.

Adventures in the Aqueducts
Name: Sech
Level: 3

Me and Warlen, a Level 4 Magician were looking around the Guard House at Qeynos Gate. We came across a guard who had a quest for us - to investigate the dissapearance of his daughter Lucie in the Aqueducts that run under Qeynos. We decided to take up the quest and go and look for her, after I bought a Buckler shield to protect me from the Aqueducts denizens. Warlen led me to the entrance to the Aqueduct, cleverly hidden away behind some leaves on the city wall. He had never been down there before, just discovered the entrance. Behind the leaves was a room with a pool of water in the middle. Warlen wouldn't go in straight away so I jumped in and began to swim downward into the depths...

I swam through a short underwater tunnel and climbed out into a network of passages, the aqueducts below the city. A beggar stood in front of me asking for change. I told him to go take a hike and stop bugging me with stories of being in the Nam. Didn't risk attacking him though, as he would probably call the guards. Warlen came down and we looked around and smashed up a few skeletons. Also we came across a huge spider which though tough at my current level, proved little problem against both of us. I was noticing several corpses lying on the ground, and was soon to discover why. A rat came round the corner. The description was a Giant Rat, though it looked pretty much identical to the Large Rats seen outside the city. Unfortunately at this time I was not used to considering enemies. So I decided to attack it with my sword, expecting it to die easily. In fact it started gnawing away at my health like a rat out of hell! I managed to half kill it and then realised this wasn't going to work. So I turned and ran. And ran. And ran. In fact I was legging it all over the place with Warlen looking on and cracking up laughing. No screams for help could save me as the Giant Rat continued to bite my ankles off. I leapt into a pool of water and it followed me in and started to swim towards me. I could feel my heart pounding in panic as I climbed out the other side and then realised I was trapped in a dead end, with the bitch right behind me. With no escape, the rat finished me off. Enough to give me nightmares! Warlen couldnt stop laughing. While I went back down there to get my body, he guarded it and the rat walked away. I found him sitting down and meditating next to it. I am not joking when I say I've never shit my pants so much in a game ever before. It was bloody hilarious. Once I'd recovered my stuff we continued to explore, with me steering well clear of any giant rats down there. Down one passageway we found a Gelatinous Cube. It had bones of its previous victims floating inside it. We decided we could take it on and it proved to be pretty easy. After looking everywhere we decided that Lucie was nowhere to be seen (I now know that her remains can be found inside a Gel Cube named Cubert). So we tried to find the exit. Nearly there and a Dreadcorpse appeared. It looked just like a red skeleton so we thought it would be piss easy to slay. Wrong again. It kicked the hell outta me in seconds and then went back for Warlen. We both appeared back in town laughing our asses off. Warlen said he had to go get some food so he left. I decided to venture on down straight away as I needed my stuff for killing creatures. I thought that the Dread would not attack me if it had already killed me. I found mine and Warlen's corpses and then decided to go venturing in again for more experience. Two corners later I came face to face with the bastard. And it hadn't forgotten the fact I tried to kill it. It immediately cast a Weakness spell on me and then beating me up with a club. I legged it for the exit as fast as I could with it cackling right behind me all the way! Luckily I escaped to the surface and vowed not to go back down the Aqueduct for at least a week...

Winter Wonderland
Name: Sech
Level: 6

I was out hunting in Everfrost with a group of five. Our prey included Snow Leopards, Polar Bears and even several huge Mammoth Calves. This was going fine, and the experience was rolling in. But then disaster struck. First of all the others decided to walk out of sight a minute. This would have been fine but then a snow leopard decided I'd make a tasty snack. And with no-one else as backup, there was no way I'd survive the attack. I ran as fast as I could towards a group of barbarians sitting around nearby but the bastards wouldn't even budge. I ran round in circles a few times until the leopard knocked me down and I bled to death in the snow. Damn I hate sudden deaths. Especially out in the middle of nowhere. I reappeared back where I had been bound just outside Halal. Now I had to find my body. I began walking back between the mountain peaks. But it all looked the same and soon I was lost, wandering aimlessly down valleys of snow. I was alone and no-one was around. Turning out of a dead end I noticed several wolves had began to gather close by. They started to walk after me and I realised I was being hunted. I quickened pace as the wolves began to run and attempt to bite me. I was defenceless as my corpse held all my armour and my sword. I shouted out for help but no-one was near. I did not know which way to run and all I wanted to do was get back to where the group were. Checking behind me I found I was being chased by not only four wolves, but two polar bear cubs. I ran aimlessly into another dead end of rocks and realised I was trapped. The wolves closed in and mauled me to death. Nightmare. So I was back in Halal now with two corpses lying around out in the snow. This time I went into the city to ask for help. A barbarian told me how to get back to where I was before. This time when I went to get my corpse back I stayed right at the edge of the valley so that no creatures would begin to attack me. I eventually found my way back and recovered my items. Unfortunately my group had disbanded and left for another place so I was on my own. I continued to hunt wooly spiders and ice goblins and was doing fine until a large polar bear spotted me. There was no way I could fight this so I found myself on the run again. I chose to climb really high up one of the mountain peaks. The slope was near on vertical near the top and looking right down below I could see the bear. After a couple of minutes it wandered off. I had escaped. So I started to climb back down, slipped, fell absolutely miles and broke my neck. ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH! For the first time I realised how bloody annoying this world could be if you weren't careful.

Drunken Gnoll Nightmare
Name: Sech
Level: 7

For the first time ever I tried playing Everquest while really drunk. I was monging at the keyboard and when I started walking around I felt completely drawn into the 3D movement and my outside life ceased to exist. It was really messed up. So I stumbled around for a while outside Blackburrow until Sanus started talking to me and asking if I wanted to join her in Blackburrow for some Gnoll slaying. I was real slow to react and by the time I actually managed to type out a sentence correctly she had already started to wander off. But she got the message ok and we teamed up then headed inside the burrow. Down underground we found several Gnolls that we managed to cut up quite easily together, although I spent most of the time running in circles and almost falling off ledges. The 3D movement of all the walls around me was starting to screw with my head. But I was coping alright with the Gnolls who would attack at most in groups of three. There were many other people wandering around the burrow killing the bastards. Seemed pretty safe and I was collecting some good weapons and items off the Gnoll corpses. Just when I thought things were going my way, I suddenly noticed people running to the exit of the burrow as fast as their legs would carry them. I turned around and realised why. In front of me across the bridge I saw what seemed like a never ending train of Gnolls all charging right towards me! I turned and ran up the steps leading to the surface. The Gnolls began to catch up. They were all around me, beating me with fists and schythes. I scrambled blindly across the surface of the burrow towards the safety of the cave. My energy was getting knocked down at an alarming rate. All I could see was Gnolls everywhere. I reckon there was about thirty of them all together. I tell you it was the most scary thing I've ever seen. I almost had a cardiac! Luckily, I managed to crawl to safety with about a fifth of my energy left. In the cave I found many other wounded survivors, all chatting about what they had just lived through. Probably the scariest Gnoll train I have ever experienced, and I was smashed at the time too...

Werewolf!
Name: Sech
Level: 12

I was out killing Bandits in Western Karanas for the first time with a group of five other adventurers. We were across near the barns where the Bandits are known to live. As it was my first time here I did not know the surrounding areas very well. The sun set and I began to worry about high level creatures creeping around in the darkness. I was right to worry. Someone suddenly shouted out to warn us that there was a werewolf about and that it was heading towards the barns! We continued to fight Bandits despite the warning. Several minutes later and it was upon us. It ripped one guy to shreds in seconds and the others of our group started to leg it away into the darkness. They were running towards the safety of the guard tower. But it was pitch black and I didn't know which way to turn. I started to run but found myself running around the area of the barns still. Suddenly I felt it tear into my flesh. No-one was around to help me. I turned for one brief moment and stared directly into its beady yellow eyes. Then I ran. But it was too fast. I tried desperately to use heal magic as I blindly ran around searching for someone else to save me. But everyone had already left and soon I was kicking up the daisies. Back in Qeynos where I was bound I stood and waited for my heartbeat to return to normal. Then I set back to Western Karanas to get my corpse. Only several seconds later another in my group told everyone that the werewolf had wandered off. I guess it was full after claiming me as a snack.
