In 1979, Reeve won the British Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Superman: The Movie.
CHRISTOPHER WAS INJURED BY BEING THROWN TO THE GROUND OFF A HORSE. HIS WHOLE BODY WAS IMMOBILIZIED EXCEPT FOR THE MUSCLES IN HIS FACE.
As a horseman, Reeve posed for a helmet-safety poster for the American Medical Equestrian Association and had volunteered to narrate a 4-H Club video on head-injury prevention.
Among his charitable activites are the Actors Fund of America, Save the Children Foundation, Special Olympics, American Cancer Society, American Medical Association (he has acted as an advisor to the council on alcoholism), and Save the Theaters.
Last February, Reeve testified before a Senate committee, arguing against a Republican proposal to eliminate funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. |
