A Nightmare On Elm Street

Year: 1989
Format: NES

Choose a house (left) then collect all the bones in it (centre) and
finally face Freddy! (right)
Comments:
It is a strange decision to release a game based on a horror film considering back when this game was made games were only bought by kids. Unlike the Friday The 13th game A Nightmare On Elm Street plays a lot like a normal family game. You play a male character (I know not which) running around streets and houses collecting bones. Once you have collected all of the bones in one house a door will open and you can continue you quest. Once you have collected all the bones in all the areas of one house you must face Freddy. The screen is heavily laden with bars and meters including a sleep meter. This slowly decreases until it reaches naught and you fall asleep. This gives everything a blue tint and turns the enemies (family friendly baddies such as spiders and vampire bats) into Freddy Kruger shaped things. It also notably features a simultaneous four player option.
Other versions of A Nightmare On Elm Street:
Format: Commodore 64
From: Westwood
Year: 1989
Comments: Far closer to the film's plot than the NES version. A complex arcade adventure with you controlling the young people out to stop Freddy before night fall.
