Comments:
Konami have pulled out all the stops in this visually brilliant and enjoyable tie-in. The music is as close to that of the film as you could get and the long intro is almost a movie trailer. All the amazing sequences give way to a scrolling beat-em-up with HUGE sprites. Strangely enough, for a 16-bit system, they work well, plenty of frames in the movement etc. A great game.
Other Versions Of Batman Returns:
Format: Sega Master System
From: Sega
Year: 1993
Comments: A side scrolling beat-em-up based loosely on the movie's plot. You get to choose from two routes through each level. One is mainly platforms while the other requires you to swing from you bat rope through most of it. This adds some longevity to an otherwise standard platformer. The sprites are very small and the graphics are a little sparse but it's quite good.
Format: Megadrive/Genesis
From: Sega
Year: 1992
Comments: A side-scrolling beat-em-up. The graphics are very dark and gothic in keeping with the film. Some loved it, some hated it, I thought it was good but it gets repetitive.
Format: Mega-CD/Sega CD
From: Sega
Year: 1993

Comments: An up-dated (many would say improved) version of the Megadrive/Genesis game. The beat-em-up sections are now separated by highly enjoyable, if a little tough, '3D' driving sections. You can play the game like this or choose only platform or only driving. The music has also been changed.
Format: NES
From: Konami
Year: 1993
Comments: Also known as Batman III. A Final Fight style beat-em-up with reasonable graphics and sound. Not a bad game.
Format: Atari Lynx
From: Atari
Year: 1992
Comments: Quite a good attempt considering it comes from Atari. The plot is close to the film in this scrolling beat-em-up boasting large well animated sprites. The only problem is that the bad guys don't stop coming making the game extremely tough. The best way to get through a level is by jumping over all the enemies and leaving them behind!
Format: IBM PC
From: Konami
Year: 1992
Comments: A point and click adventure based very loosely on the movie. You play Batman, here reduced to being a detective as he ventures around Gotham City collecting clues and items. There are fights but these are limited to selecting which weapon to use and the 'ferocity' of the attack. Not very good.
Format: Amiga
From: Konami
Year: 1993
Comments: Thanks to Tammy Crowe for the pictures and description to this one. Apparently not a very good game. The sprites are small and ugly and the controls are awkward. The only good thing about it are the backgrounds.
