Name:

 The Addams Family

Date 1991 Publisher B.M.I

What the box says:

"The Addams family is certainly the weirdest, kookiest clan of all times and you can now join in the fun with their own game.

The Addams family are made up of "Gouzy" and his delightful wife "Morticia" who speaks to him in french and sparks begin to fly. The butler "Lurch" gives everyone a "warm" welcome and have you ever seen a door opener as weird as "Thing". Let us not forget the wonderful children "Wednesday" and "Pugsley" and the deceitful "Tully" and doctor Sehloss, did you ever have an uncle as outrageous as "Uncle Fester" - I doubt it - unless of course you are a member of the Addams family.

So get on board with the cookiest clan of all times.

The Addams family board game is certainly the weirdest game of all times. This is a great game for 2 to 6 players or teams. Become one of the Addams family, and try to get back to the Addams house first, avoiding of course the many traps and uncle fester cards.
There are extra suprises in store, because uncle fester is missing and hiding in  the grounds, if you find him you could win a superb Addams family prize, just filling in the entry form."

How it works:

For 2 To 6 Players, From Age 8 To Adult.

The Addams Family is a poorly devised and produced game.

The objective of the game is to be the first person to go once round the board. That's it! Inspiring stuff, huh? Well actually there is a little more to it than that but not much. The idea is to get to the tomb stone at the very end of the board but on your first time around you have to get the exact number to land on it. Fortunately after your first lap you don't have to be so precise, but it still takes time.

As you can tell the creators haven't even tried to tie the game objective in with the plot of the film. So what's the quality like? Well you get the board in four, jigsaw-like, pieces which is an original idea, the only original thing in the entire game. The actual look of the board is cheap. The squares are decorated either with a bland publicity photo of one of the minor characters or a plain looking tombstone, some with standard board game commands (miss a turn/take a card). The cards have a low quality, blue, picture of Uncle Fester on the back and a poorly typed instruction on the front. The box itself is decorated with more publicity photos and the description on the back contains errors (since when was Morticia's husband called Gouzy?), poor grammar, spelling mistakes, repeated lines and lots of speech marks which just add to it's cheap look.

The only thing that vaguely makes this game any different from another board game is the tie in competition. There is a riddle on the back of the box which is also repeated on the final square of the board. If you can solve it you should be able to tell where in the large illustration Uncle Fester is hiding. Just write his location on the form provided and fill in the tie breaker (as if working out the riddle wasn't enough) and you could win on of 100 Addams Family Videos. Well you could have. The competition closed 31st of January 1993...
