Comments:
Back in the eighties these Atari versions were all the rage. The graphics were state of the art at the time using the relatively new 'vector graphics' of it's predecessor. Infact it is pretty much the same as the first Star Wars arcade game except you fly different styles of spaceships around land areas rather than space. Uses voice samples and music from the film.
Other versions of The Empire Strikes Back:
Format: Atari 2600
From: Atari?
Year: 198?
Comments: A prehistoric looking game based on the AT AT sequence from the movie. You control six pixels that represent a fighter craft and the aim of the 'game' is to shoot down as many AT ATs as you can. You have a sort of Radar on the bottom of the screen which tells you how near you are to each of the enemy and you can fly in either direction at different speeds. If you do manage to destroy all of the AT ATs you go on to the next level which is identical to the last but in a different colour scheme.
Format: Amstrad CPC
From: Domark
Year: 1985
Comments: An awful game made entirely in vector (3D lines) graphics. A conversion of the Atari arcade game.
Format: Spectrum 48K
From: Domark
Year: 1985
Comments: Same as the Amstrad version.
Format: Commodore 64
From: Domark
Year: 1985
Comments: Same as
the Amstrad & Spectrum versions.
Format: Super Nintendo
From: LucasArts
Year: 1993
Comments: Well regarded platform/driving game based closely on the film. As with the others there are long animated story sequences using still images from the film. Good graphics and sound.
Format: NES
From: LucasArts
Year: 1991
Comments: Similar to the SNES game. An
alternative to Super Empire Strikes Back for the 8-bit owners. The graphics are alright
but it's not much fun. A platform game.
Format: Nintendo Gameboy
From: Lucas Arts
Year: 1992
Comments: Same as the NES
version. A side scrolling platformer based around the plot of the film.
I don't like this one much.
Format: Arcade
Name: Star Wars Trilogy Arcade
From: Sega
Year: 1998
Comments: A multi-genre arcade game based on the most famous elements of the films.
