Ghostbusters II

From: Activision
Year: 1990
Format: NES
Comments:
A mixed bunch of games based loosely on the film. The stages include a scrolling level set in the old Van Horne station with ghosts attacking your Ghostbuster, a side-on driving game with you having to steer the Ecto-1 out of danger and another level based in the court room. Okay but not great.
Other versions of Ghostbusters II:
Format: Amstrad CPC
From: Activision
Year: 1989
Comments: A different version to the NES one. Follows the plot quite closely (if with a bit of programmers license). The first level has Ray Stance dangling beneath the New York streets. His task is to collect the three parts of the slime collecting apparatus on his way down and then, upon reaching the river of slime at the bottom, take a large sample. Next the Ghostbusters take to the streets in the Statue Of Liberty. You control a fire ball (presumably from the torch) and fire slime at the advancing ghosts in order to prevent them from striking the statue. You need to top up your slime by sending out your followers to collect the slime dropped by destroyed enemies. If you make it to the art gallery before midnight then you will face the last level. Here you control all four Ghostbusters (in turn of course) in an attempt to stop the evil Vigor using the baby Oscar as his new body. This is a difficult task and there are many unexpected twists before the battle is won. The graphics are good as is the music and each stage is divided by some nice stills from the movie. My only gripe is that it is a little to difficult at times.
Format: Spectrum 48K
From: Activision
Year: 1989
Comments: Same as the Amstrad version but with less colourful graphics etc.
Format: Commodore 64
From: Activision
Year: 1989
Comments: Same as the Amstrad and Spectrum versions but with far inferior and sparse graphics.
Format: Nintendo Gameboy
From: Activision
Year: 1990
Comments: A totally different take on the films plot. You choose you Ghostbusters and then take them around various locations of the film trapping all the ghosts there are before the time runs out. One Ghostbuster stuns the ghost with his gun while the other one quickly traps it. Great fun.
