Format: Sega Megadrive/Genesis

Games didn't look too good way back in 1989...
Comments:
You play John Rambo as the one man army takes on those darn Russians again, this time to save his friend, Colonel Trautman. Rambo must complete missions such as enter the Russian base and rescue the hostages but they're all pretty much the same with Rambo mowing down endless numbers of enemy soldiers with his machine gun. You can also choose between a knife, Rambo's patented explosive arrows or bombs as you're secondary weapon. As this was one of the first games made for the Megadrive/Genesis the graphics are pretty bad as is the sound and music. The controls are a bit fiddly too. For Rambo fans only.
Other versions of Rambo III:
Format: Arcade
From: Taito
Year: 1989
Comments: A Space Harrier style shooting game (minus the flying of course). You play Rambo (and a second player can join as Colonel Trautman) constantly running forward as you mow down the entire Russian army. There are various power-ups to aid you such as Rambo's exploding arrows and an icon the makes your sight wider to allow you to shoot down more commies in one go. The graphics, sound and music are quite good. Like the film it is based on, this is good mindless fun. Watch out though as the amount of continues you can use is limited!
Format: Sega Master System
From: Sega
Year: 1990
Comments: An 'Operation Wolf' style first person perspective shooting game. You can use your light gun or, if you don't have one, your joypad and a cross hair. The graphics aren't bad but the gameplay is a bit old.
Format: Amstrad CPC
From: Ocean
Year: 1988
Comments: A three part action game. The first part is a top down action game as Rambo must infiltrate the enemy base and rescue Colonel Trautman. To do this you need to collect various items, unlock doors and avoid traps. In the second part Rambo must escape the base and the final part is a first person perspective shooting section that takes place in a helicopter. The graphics are alright and the game isn't bad either.
Format: Spectrum 48k

Comments: Same as the Amstrad and Commodore versions but with lesser graphics etc.
Format: Commodore 64

Comments: Same as the others. Good graphics, music and sound.
