Robocop

From: Data East
Year: 1988
Format: Arcade

The various trials of Robocop. Please note a powered up ED-209 far right
Comments:
A scrolling shooting game. You control Robocop using his fist and a various assortment of guns (including the Cobra assault cannon) to bring the criminal scum of Detroit to justice. In-between levels there is a short shooting gallery for extra energy and points. The are some similarities between the game and the film, mainly the enemies such as ED-209 (in various guises) and the gangs van. Good fun but not particularly difficult.
Other versions of Robocop:
Format: Playstation 2
From: Titus
Year: In production/2003

Comments: One of the many old movies getting the 'next generation' treatment. Unfortunately this first person perspective shooter is being made by the French programming team Titus responsible for the utter merde games; Blues Brothers 2000 and Superman. We can but hope...

Format: Gameboy Colour

Comments: A top down action game. More when I get it.
Format: Gameboy Advance

Year: In production/2003?

Comments: A conversion of the old Data East arcade game. The graphics look pretty good. More when I get it.
Format: Amstrad CPC
From: Ocean
Year: 1988
Comments: Very similar to the arcade version but not supposed to be a conversion. You walk along and shoot baddies with a selection of guns, some similar to the arcade ones. It's not all shooting though. There is a level involving Robocop trying to match up the police photo-fits of one of the gang that killed him. Not all of the shooting is platform based either. You use cross hairs to free the captive woman and in the final level where you must rescue the head of OCP from Dick Jones. Overall a good game but rather difficult.
Format: Spectrum 48k
From: Ocean
Year: 1988
Comments: Same as the Amstrad version but with lots of little speech samples which could explain the massive loading times.
Format: Commodore 64
From: Ocean
Year: 1988
Comments: Same as the other versions. The graphics aren't as good as the Amstrad but better than the Spectrum. Has the same speech as the Spectrum version. It's also really hard.
Format: Nintendo Gameboy
From: Ocean
Year: 1990
Comments: Same as the home computer versions but really hard!
Format: NES
From: Data East
Year: 1989
Comments: Similar to the arcade version and the other computer versions too. The game is a scrolling beat-em-up. You play Robocop and you can either punch or shoot bad guys (or bad dogs). There are end-of-level bosses too. The graphics sound and music aren't bad making this game quite enjoyable.
