Terminator II:
Judgment Day

From: Midway

Year: 1991

Format: Arcade

So this is what 2029 looks like?...

Comments:

An 'Operation Wolf' style shooting game. You move the sight around the screen (guided by the cabinet mounted machine guns that vibrate when you fire) blasting those pesky Terminators. The levels take you from the devastated world of the future, to the Skynet offices of the present. Quite close to the movie's plot and the action is fast and furious. Plenty of voice samples too. For one or two players.

Comments: A direct conversion of the Midway Arcade game. It was compatible with Sega's ill fated Menacer light gun. Did anyone get past level three without cheating?

Title: T2: The Arcade Game

From: Acclaim

Year: 1992

Comments: A miniaturized version of the arcade game. The basics are the same (unsurprisingly there is no lightgun support!) although some levels have been changed to fit onto this smaller format. The graphics are quite good but there is quite a bit of sprite flicker. There is no in game music either. All in all a good conversion but a little to difficult.

Year: Planned but Cancelled

Comments: Never released, probably due to the NES being discontinued.

Format: Sega Megadrive/Genesis

Title: Terminator II: Judgment Day

From: Acclaim

Year: 1993

Comments: A scrolling, platform action game. You play Arnie as he wanders around various locations with several objectives to complete. For instance the first level takes place at the roadside bar where he needs to collect a shotgun and find John Conner's address. The graphics are alright. The sprites are thin and a bit crap and Arnie himself looks like some middle aged biker with a beer gut! The music is pretty standard stuff. Not bad but nothing special.

Comments: Identical to the Megadrive/Genesis version in every way.

Comments: A scrolling platform beat-em-up based on the plot of the film. You play Arnie as he wanders around scenes from the film beating people up. As with the other versions of this game the sprites are pretty small. The music is also a little limited in this one. Not identical to the 16-bit versions.

Comments: A scrolling beat-em-up. The same game as the Master System 'Judgment Day'. You play Arnie as he tries to protect John Conner from the evil T1000. The graphics are alright although the sprites are a little small.

Comments: An alright platform shooter. You start in the future as John Conner. He must destroy the force field surrounding the Skynet building so he can steal a Terminator. There are other sections like a motorbike level but it's all a bit too dull and difficult.

Format: IBM PC

Title: Terminator 2: Judgment Day: Chess War

Year: 1993?

Comments: Some sort of Terminator flavored chess game. My guess is that is wasn't very good. Let me know if you have played it.

Comments: A multi-genre game based close to the movie. First level has you as T808 having a spot of fisty-cuffs with T1000 in the shopping mall. The moves are quite limited and the shuffling movements are pretty comical. The second level takes place in the flood channel. You guide the motor bike around dodging junk and leaping cars while avoiding the attentions of T1000 in the truck behind. Next is a one-on-one with T1000 in the hospital followed by a highway chase and finally a last fight in the steel mill. In between some of the levels are short, timed puzzles for extra points. The graphics and gameplay were good in it's time but that was a while ago now...

Comments: Same as the Amstrad game but with really bad graphics.

Format: Commodore 64

From: Ocean/LJN

Year: 1991

Comments: Same as the Amstrad & Spectrum games but with two new levels. One has you playing Sarah trying to escape the sanitarium and the other is a similar but much shorter level with Arnie trying to escape the Skynet building. Also the last level is fought between an Endoskeleton Arnie and T1000. The motorbike level is less varied and exciting than the other computer's versions.
