STARS IN GAMES

In the early Nineties the first CD based consoles were produced. The CD gave much greater storage capacity than ever before allowing programmers to use things that had never before been possible on cartridge. The most exciting of these new possibilities was Full Motion Video.

FMV as it was known was basically video footage put into a game. Real people instead of computer drawn sprites. Video game companies were desperate to be the first to hire big name actors for their games while some Hollywood stars saw it as the future of the movie industry!

How wrong they were. While CDs offered video footage there was little that could actually be done with it once it was filmed. Movies are predetermined so any interaction with the 'game' was reduced to choosing a pre-recorded path or pressing the right button at the right time. This didn't exactly make the games a load of fun to play so FMV games soon died out.

Some actors are returning to games now, as voices or sometimes in sprite form, but the majority of Film Star graced games languish in the long forgotten past...

(The games in this section are PC-CD games unless otherwise stated)
