1. I can write HTML, how can I create my own pages?
To create your web pages using your own HTML, you must first be assigned a URL and create a page using the Basic Page Builder tool.
Once you have created a basic page you can edit and upload more files using our File Manager facility.

3. How much space do I have for the pages and graphics?
Each FortuneCity member gets 100MB of space on our server. The Page Manager contains a graphic meter at the top of the page which indicates how much space you have remaining for use by your site.

4. Can I put Java on my pages?
Yes you can, we support both Javascript and Java applets.

5. Can I have more than one URL?
Absolutely. Though you may not have pages used only for storage purposes (i.e., graphics, sound or any other non-HTML files). The only hitch is that you must register with a different e-mail account than you used for your original page. Your fcmail account is not eligible for this. Please note that if you only have one email address, a second, free account can be easily obtained at providers such as Yahoo mail or Hotmail

7. Why do I get the page "I'm afraid the page you are looking for no longer exists on this server" from my URL?
Usually because it isn't named 'index.html', please see point 8 below.
top
8. Why should my first page be called index.html?
You need to name your main page 'index.html' in order for it to link from the URL you were given. You can do this through using the File Manager or FTP.

9. Can I delete or rename files that I have uploaded?

10. How do I know how much space I have left?

11. When I upload my pages they don't show the changes until I start my browser again. Why?
Most browsers use a process called 'caching' to store recently visited pages (and their component files) on your hard drive; this is actually quite useful as it speeds up web access a great deal. So, if you visit a particular page twice in the same session, your browser will most likely pull it from cache (on your hard drive) rather than from the web server… and if the page has changed since you first viewed it, you won't see the changes. What you need to do is press the Reload/Refresh button to see the page change; in some cases, you may also need to first empty the disk cache, then hit Reload/Refresh. (in IE, select Tools>Internet Options>Delete Files; in Netscape, select Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Cache>Clear Memory Cache or Clear Disk Cache; this will erase the old version residing on your hard drive and force the browser to pull the new version from the web server).

12. More than one person uses my computer and have accounts with FC, but we are having problems, why?
When you log onto FortuneCity, your browser will 'remember' the login information you enter; this is actually quite useful in that you will not have to keep typing in your username and password every time you access the File Manager. When two or more people use the same computer to edit their home pages, however, there will be problems accessing the second account (because the browser is retaining the information for the first account.) To get around this, simply quit and restart your browser; this will allow FortuneCity to request a new username and password, thereby allowing multiple users to access their accounts from one machine.

13. Can I have sub-directories? Yes you can, you can create them both with FTP and the file manager.
top
14. Can I have multiple pages within my site?
Yes. You can create pages offline and upload them via FTP, or create new pages from the File Manager and Basic Page Builder. To use the File Manager, click on the 'Create new HTML file' button. To use Basic Page Builder, click on the 'Create new page' button.
