ADVANTAGES: The advantages of using grotesques are that they are immune to all firepower below strength 6, so its all or nothing when shooting at them !. This will force your enemy to divert heavy weapons firepower towards the grotesques. Grotesques have 2 wounds and 2 attacks, which make them quite proficient in close combat, especially as they are strength 4
DISADVANTAGES: The disadvantages of grotesques are that they are only initiative 3, which means that in almost all cases they will not strike first in close combat. They are stupid, and will not move very often unless you include an independent character to lead them. They have no weapons as such, and cannot be upgraded to have any.
I use my grotesques as a screen for my warriors with heavy weapons. This stops the enemy from firing at my heavy weapon squads, but they may still fire at the enemy. Because they cannot be killed by anything less than strength 6 weapons, this should divert your enemies heavy weapon fire towards them, and away from your vehicles and talos.
