Bonfire Night

In the shortening days of November, when the nights are getting long,

He crept down under parliament, and was caught there doing wrong.

While filling up the basement, with gunpowder by the load,

Guy Fawkes was apprehended, before it could explode.

On the fifth day of November, he planned to blow parliament in the sky,

So the government, they burnt him, and the people watched him die.

Now every year the people, burn an effigy on a fire,

Light sparklers and fireworks, and watch the flames climb higher.

To children it's a happy time, they have baked potatoes in the night,

They watch Catherine-wheels and rockets, and hold sparklers very tight.

Adults need to supervise, to keep a keen and watchful eye,

For fireworks are dangerous, with children, so close by.
