Gathering shadows

 Encumbered with desolation,

Nightmares shadow my days

Warding off euphoric sleep,

Obdurately piercing my fortress of relative peace

 Outside the day grows old,

As the poignant misery of nightfall descends

Dropping a nebulous essence along its path,

It wills the light to end

 Drawing portentously near,

The wind whispers unspoken thoughts

Deluged in foolish childhood dreams,

The knowing voice continues to taunt

 Incarcerated within this stained world,

I cower beneath a shroud of grey

Shivering in misery,

As lust for life continues to fray

 Left depleted,

As the probing voice mercifully fades

Looming above,

The black fingers of night stealthily invade

 Deadened to life,

Yielding to the sickening blackness

I've come to the end of daylight,

And finally face the doorway of darkness
