			 The Window
			     Chapter 1
			   [by Dr.Who3]

The night was dark and stormy but Cathy was warm and just a bit
hungry inside her big old two story house. She sat, in the brightly lit
kitchen, at the table sipping her hot cocoa and waiting for the
microwave to finish popping the popcorn. The smell was heavenly,
kind of salty-buttery and warm all at once.
The house rattled a bit and creaked sometimes but Cathy was not
worried. The old house had stood for nearly a century and would
probably be standing long after she was gone. The beeping of the
microwave told her the popcorn was done.
With a yawn, Cathy got up and started towards it when the lights
went out. As she groped about in the dark, trying to remember
where she put the candles, she heard the distinct sound of a door
opening with a long strange creaking sound and then slam shut with
a loud quick bang that made her jump!
The sound seemed to have been coming from the living room.
Darn! Why couldn't she find those candles?!? Maybe one of the
shutters had blown loose on one of the living room windows.
She stubbed her toe as she felt her way through the pitch black
	surrounding her, "Ouch!!"
Finally she found the doorway to the living room and cautiously
	stepped through.
What was that strange soft glow shining in through one of the
windows???!?! Was someone outside shining a light inside?
There were no other houses nearby to have lights of their own that
would shine in her windows and no street lights out on the edge of town
	like this.
Curious, Cathy slowly felt her way towards the window until she
	was able to look out.
Looking out through the window she gasped and nearly fainted!
