What Can Go Wrong?
The Yahoo Glitch Monster
1. Frequently the message boards in the clubs fail to update. This usually happens when Yahoo upgrades some feature somewhere but it can happen spontaneously. When this happens you will notice that messages may fail to show up immediately after posting or if they do show up they may disappear for hours and then reappear and may even continue to appear and disappear until Yahoo resolves the glitch. You may also notice during this time that deleted posts don't always disappear from the clubs homepage although they usually do disappear from the actual message list if you click the link on the club's nav bar. All you can do is to email yahoo about the problem and perhaps email your club members so those new to yahoo clubs will be informed and won't worry so much about what is happening. To email yahoo about a problem click the "Help" link on the Nav bar on the left side of your club page and then at the bottom of the help page you will see a "NO" button to click to bring up a feedback form. Just fill in all the info blanks and be sure to set the type of report option to "a bug in the clubs". Then click on the submit button at the bottom of the form. Be aware that Yahoo may take up to about 8 days to answer [based on my past experience]. 2. Sometimes you can not even get to your own club. You may get an error message saying your club "does not exist or may have been deleted" when you try to access your club. Do not panic. This usually means that the clubs server is having a problem and NOT that your club has really ceased to exist. You should try again - up to 4 times or wait and try again later. If you still can not get in by the next day then email yahoo about it. I have known the clubs to be down 1 1/2 days before but that is a rare thing for it to be down quite that long. Usually the clubs are back up and running in a few hours at most. 3. Your club picture may not appear or may not be animated. Sometimes the server hosting the club pics goes down. If this happens you may be able to post the pic onto a website and then use the online pic option in yahoo club "change picture" section to link to the online pic. There have been times when no matter what you try the club pics just wont show till yahoo fixes the glitch. With things Yahoo it is best not to assume that what happened is all your fault. 4. Your club's stats may fail to update when they should. The members counter may not show any number or only a zero. This won't really impede your club operations. You can email Yahoo about it and go on with your club as usual while waiting for yahoo to fix the glitch. 5. The message that tells you who is currently in the club chat room may not tell you the truth so if you are supposed to meet there for a club chat but see no names listed as being in club chat - go into the club chat room and look for yourself to be sure. 6. The list above your message previews on your clubs homepage may not show any club member as being online when you know there are some members online. If this continues more than 24 hours report it to Yahoo. 7. The chat rooms are notoriously unstable. Good luck in using them. Yahoo is well aware of the problem but hasn't solved it in the 2 years that I have been using the yahoo services. To be fair, I have not found a chat service anywhere that doesn't suffer from lag and/or disconnects [spontaneously booting people from the chat room]. 8. Your club's Photo albums may disappear with no explanation. All you can do is to Email Yahoo about it. You can open a photo album account with place such as Picturetrails.com to place your club's photos. 9. A founder may have difficulty accessing his/her own club due to some yahoo glitch that make yahoo think you are not allowed access - as if you had been banned from your own club. Email yahoo about it. This is a good time to have that second ID set up as Cofounder as was mentioned on the new clubs hints page. 10. A general rule of thumb is that if Yahoo upgrades you have 2 weeks to 2 1/2 weeks of glitches. If you think of any type of club glitch I have neglected to mention please Email me using the link below. Thanks Dr.Who3
