For an A+ Experience
1. Make two separate yahoo accounts - [the one you have now and a second one].
I mean really separate accounts - each with its own yahoo email address.
Then when you have created a club - log in as your second ID and have
it join the club also. Then log back in as your original founder ID and make your
second ID a cofounder. The reason for all this is that once in awhile yahoo has
been known to glitch and lock a founder out of his own club. Having a second ID
that has founders powers enables you to continue operating your club while
yahoo straightens out the glitch with your first ID. This type of trouble recently
happened to a friend of mine who had not made a second ID into a cofounder
and she had to create a whole new club and try to contact all her members by email
to let them know of the move to the new club - At this time yahoo is still
[2 weeks later] trying to resolve the problem with her club access.
2. I know that many people like to appoint cofounders but I personally do not
recommend you appoint a cofounder [other than your own second ID]
- although asking members for help in reading posts and other club duties
is a good thing. There are only a few duties that a volunteer helper can not do
- such as change club colors - delete members etc. and those duties only
take a few moments for even a busy founder to do him/herself.
A cofounder is FOREVER. You can not remove a cofounder later if you change
your mind. Only the cofounder can decide to remove him/herself from the club.
ALSO it is important to note the a cofounder has the SAME powers as the founder
and can DELETE the whole club if they have a bad hair day or something and just
decide to suddenly do so. I have seen this happen before.
[Note - This may change when and if the merger between yahoo and Egroups
clubs systems is completed. At time of this writing the Egroups has becom the
new yahoo groups but they are still separate from the yahoo clubs. The last I
heard was that yahoo intends to merge the clubs into the groups.]
If you do decide to appoint a cofounder or cofounders anyway it is best to appoint
someone you have known for a long time in person - but at least someone you
have chatted with online for more than 6 months.
I do recommend asking good people to help out and with hosting club readings
- commenting on posts - planning events etc. It is my hope that someday yahoo
will allow us to appoint "hosts" to do these things so that we can grant some
official recognition to those fine people who help us out and yet not have the
appointment be "forever" so if they leave or drop out of site or whatever we can
remove them and they can't delete the whole club either
[in case you get into a disagreement].
3. Use the many free resources available on the web to enhance the experience
of your club members. There are free pictures and even animated graphics
which you can use for your clubs home page picture or on a web page which
you might decide to make for your club. There are online dictionaries,
thesauruses too. There many online poetry contests, some with cash prizes but
beware of scams. Read everything carefully.
The Founder's Resource Links page has some links to such
resources and we are always open to people to submit new links to resources.
4. Comment on your club member's posts. If you do not have time to do so
then ask another club member to help. People leave a club that ignores their posts.
5. You may want to consider Starting a web page for your club.
You can feature your best members works or have a newspaper or both.
A club web page can have pictures and sound on the pages to
enhance the members experience.
