“Absolute power demands absolute loyalty.”
England 1554.
England is divided by faith: Catholic against Protestant.
Concerned that England will be further divided if Princess
Elizabeth, who is Protestant, inherits the crown, Queen Mary
is convinced by her top advisers to have her half sister arrested
for treason and heresy. Though most heretics are forced to
confess and burned at the stake, Elizabeth is taken to “The Tower”.
When it becomes apparent that the Queen is dying, Elizabeth
is brought before her and then released.
Surrounded by treachery, lies and the threat of war,
Princess Elizabeth is crowned Queen of England after
the death of Queen Mary. She tries to rule from the
heart and quickly learns that will not earn her respect
or loyalty. Not knowing who to trust, Queen Elizabeth
soon finds sound council with Sir Francis Walsingham
(played by Geoffrey Rush).
If you love the Elizabethan era, you will love this movie.
The costumes and pageantry are wonderful. No crude
language - how refreshing! There is some brief nudity.
But I did not find it offensive. My kids loved it. It is not
meant as a documentary, but the taste of history is there.
Cate Blanchett makes a wonderful Queen Elizabeth.
The resemblance is striking. Especially when she assumes
the role of “The Virgin Queen”. If you would like to learn
more about the awesome Ms. Blanchett, check out this

Elizabeth ascended the throne at the young age of 25.
She was an intelligent person and had a thirst for knowledge.
I have read that she also wrote poetry while she was in prison.
But as yet, I have not been able to find any. If anyone does
find some, please e-mail me at hermia001@yahoo.com .
I have read some of her speeches. She was an articulate and
powerful writer.

These are only two of the many sites I have been to… But if you
get addicted to it, there are so many more out there.
