Fewwet-
Watching Jada from the safety of his hidden burrow, the white
ferret saw her as she found the contract the two kings had
signed. Quickly he made up his mind that, judging from her
reaction to the paper she had found, was the one that could
help him .

Scurrying out into the room, checking that no one else was
present, he approached Jada.

"Hello, I am Merle, formerly wizard to this great castle.
When that agreement was signed, I protested; and only my
magic [of which I still posses some] was able to keep me
from being killed," he explained to Jada.

Allowing a little time for Jada to overcome her initial shock,
Merle explained how he protested the plan of the two kings.

Jada looked as a furry little animal appeared from a hole in
the wall that hadn't been there before. When he started
talking to her, she almost fainted, leaning on the king's
chair for support. As what he was telling her sunk in, she
had vague memories of a handsome, blond wizard that
she used to see roaming the castle walls when she was
younger.

"Well," she said to herself, "at least a small ally is better
than none!"
