Newsflash! The incomparable John Baker, author of the excellent Sam Turner series, has asked me to pass on details of what sounds like an
excellent idea, a Northern crime writers collective. From John himself:
"The other thing is that a group of seven Northern crime writers have got together in a kind of virtual collective to help us promote each
other'swork. The group is known as Murder Squad and is comprised of John Baker, Ann Cleeves, Chaz Brenchley, Cath Staincliffe, Margaret Murphy,
Stuart Pawson and Martin Edwards. Our first gig is at the opening of the new Borders bookshop at Cheshire Oaks (Wirral) on the 23rd March from 6 pm
to 8 pm. There will be a panel, readings, question and answer session and even a competition with prizes."
So, anyone in the area - sounds like it would be an excellent evening with a panel of hugely talented writers. Let me know if you go and tell me what
went on. Watch this space for more appearances...
Another Chaz Brenchley-related item - Jean Rogers has kindly submitted a review of Brenchley's Dispossession. Although not Chaz's novels are not
crime in the normal sense of the term, I'm not a purist and Chaz Brenchley is a superb writer, and well worth checking out. Jean's review is here and you can read more about Chaz at his Northern Gothic
