They have completed their current UK tour and released the single 'Little Discourage' and are writing their new album

And so it begins... Their sound has been described as 'a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs' and after experiencing one of their gigs you'd know why.
When Roddy Woomble, Rod Jones and Colin Newton met at an Edinburgh University party in December 1995, realising they shared a love of Dishord Punk, Sonic Youth, Girls Vs Boys, plus various other punk and metal bands. 2 weeks later they had their first gig which ended after 15 minutes of 'white noise'.
Paul their first bassist was given the boot in favour of Bob, and this saw the formation of the Idlewild we now know. 'Queen Of The Troubled Teens' was released just before Bob arrived on an Edinburgh Indie label, Human Condition.
Steve Lamacq saw them in an early gig and they soon were heard on the Evening Session.
As most of you may think Idlewild were named after, the previous name of JFK Airport in the states, but no. They were named after forest 'Idlewild' from 'Anne of Green Gable' on of Roddy's favorite books.
By September 1997 they had signed to Deceptive records, releasing their last single on an independent label, 'Chandelier', on 1st December 1997. this was after some not so idle-wild in the extreme gigs, including a runner-up at the In The City Unsigned contest.
Soon after this two singles including 'Satan Polaroid' and the mini-album 'Captain' were released.
Another year of gigs best described as Chaotic followed, including 3 single releases, 'A Film For The Future', 'Everyone Says Your So Fragile' and 'I'm A Message' and their first full length album 'Hope Is Important'.
1999 has seen them on a number of dates on the NME tour, which has seen them described as 'most enticing live prospect '99'
It's clear Idlewild still have to loose their hit and miss approach to their gigs and get a hold on the choas without losing the edge to their sword, but in time they will.
Their current release, 'When I Argue I See Shapes' is a departure from their more punk tracks, it is set to be unleashed in the chart with your help it will do well, probably the last single to be released from the current album, so the new one should follow soon..
