This
is the 3rd album from platinum selling US threesome Everclear. They were
last seen in the UK in April '98 supporting Feeder on their UK tour and
released the single 'Everything To Everyone' a good song but not one of
the best on the album. Unfortunately they seem content with US success
and haven't been back for a return trip.
The albums itself is like a ship in a bottle, it take skill to get
it there and if you want if out of the bottle you need to smash... ok so
they aren't much like a ship ijn a bottle, but they are a great band.
They are aband whose sound started like grunge, songs like the great
'Heroin Girl' from their first album 'White Trash Hell', although they
progressed into what we might be referring to 'powerpop' in the millenia.
In this album you will find varied style from the 'Best Instrumental' Grammy
nominated 'El Distorto De Melodica' to the excellent 'Amphetamine'.
Lyrically each song seems so simple and flows like a pint of guiness
into the glass, but they are infectious ones combined with cool riffs.
It's little wonder that they have exploded in the US in the past few years,
they could be the 'Cheered-up Nirvana' of this world.
It wasn't always god for lead guitarist/ song writer / producer Art
Alexakis, back in 1984 after a near fatal overdose he gave-up drugs, alcohol,
nicotine and yes you guessed i, even caffeine. As you read this Art is
working on his Solo LP, due for release in autumn, and he's leaving Craig
Montoya (Bass) and Greg Ekland (Drums) behind for solo dates in March,
in the US. More info on this will be posted up when it comes.
If you're looking for an album that's different from the run-of-the-mill
rock bans, give them a try, and you've probably heard them without knowing
it, seeing that they played a 'rocky' Rodolf the Red Nose Reindeer' on
an advert during the festive season.
