This page is for the hardcore 16-bit series - the Amiga 500, 500+ & 600 and also the more powerful 32-bit, the Amiga 1200... check out my CD32 page for the CD-Rom based CD-TV and the 32-Bit console, the CD32.

The Amiga lead an extraordinary popular long life and on the contrary to popular belief is still alive and thrashing about today, although with a much smaller fan base than during it's peak (in the early-mid 1990's) the Amiga still has a magazine dedicated to it's progress.

In many ways the Amiga was the best home computer of it's time, capable of spectacular graphics putting the then primitive PC to shame... but in the end it was the PC's versatility and unique compatibility that soon sweep the Amiga into the corner and since the rise of the internet that's where it's been based.

The Amiga range had no shortage of classics and original games and it first spawned Lemmings to the world (one of the most original gamesd of the decade) which was then released on nearly every platform known to man (with versions even turning up on the 8-bit machines). Also released to us was Frontier aka Elite 2 which offered a huge gaming universe for trading, advancing in military rank... or just flying about doing your own thing. The driving sim range also got a shake up with the release of the Lotus Trilogy.

Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 (see animation above), then revolutionary, offered relatively fast (on an Amiga 1200 in particular) split screen 2 player head to head, smooth scrolling with rain, snow, fog and even oncoming traffic. Also first on the Amiga, was the unforgettable point'n'direct war game Cannon Fodder where you watched your little soldiers progress up the ranks and see their little grave stone when they became KIA.
