CICERO
Unreleased

This section outlines the tracks CICERO made between 1996 & 1998 that were never released commercially.  Some tracks appeared on "Academy Street" compilations, which are no longer in print.  I have given each track my own personal overviews and a score out of 5.

1996 - 1997

VORTEX  (Instrumental)
(Written & Produced by Dave Cicero)
A hard house anthem with a strong and bouncy "rave" style. This is what I call proper "hands in the air" stuff.  The main theme to the song is very catchy but a little repetitive.

Score : 3 / 5

100's Of UFO's  (Instrumental)
(Written & Produced by Dave Cicero)
This track begins very atmospheric and includes voice samples reflecting the song title.  It builds into a fully fledged rave anthem with strong drum lines. Unfortunately spoiled by it's length and repetitiveness.

Score : 2 / 5

Love Is Everywhere '97 (Instrumental)
(Written & Produced by Dave Cicero)
A much faster rave version of the 1992 hit single which originally appeared on the album "Future Boy".  Not exceptional but clever, and certainly brings back memories.

Score : 3 / 5

Alien Monkey  (Instrumental)
(Written & Produced by Dave Cicero)
Another in Dave's long string of hard rave tracks.  This one is particularly mad, and includes some fabulous strings, piano and vox overdubs. Multi-layered and perfectly produced.

Score : 3 / 5

Peach  (Instrumental)
(Written & Produced by Dave Cicero)
A nice vox intro leading into a full-on drum and bass led dance track.  This track follows a more "mainstream" sound and song structure but is still fun to listen to.

Score : 3 / 5

Wish (Version 1)
(Written & Produced by Dave Cicero)
Vocals by "Marianne" / Backing Vocals by "Dave"

For those of you out there who enjoy the musical style of "STEPS" and the like, Cicero was doing it in 1997.  This song greatly deserved to feature in the Top 20.  A bit of production work would not have gone amiss, and if an outside producer had been brought in, this track would have been a classic.

Score : 4 / 5

Inside Your Dreams (Radio Mix)
(Written & Produced by Dave Cicero)
Vocals by "Marianne" / Backing Vocals by "Dave"

This is quite a dark track, very atmospheric but quite heavy sounding to the listener.  As a planned single release this song lacks a certain something that I can't quite put my finger on.  "Wish" is a much more light hearted song by far, and would have made an ideal release for the duo.

Score : 3 / 5

Inside Your Dreams (Club Version)
(Written & Produced by Dave Cicero)
Vocals by "Marianne" / Backing Vocals by "Dave"

Ok, scrub everything that was written above, for some reason Dave's re-working on this track makes all the difference and works much better in this longer / remixed form.

Score : 4 / 5

Feel It
(Written & Produced by Dave Cicero)
Vocals by "Marianne" & "Dave"

This song is more of a duet, classic verses and chorus structure and great lyrics.  The backing track has a very "old Cicero" feel to it, similar to the original "Heaven must have....".  A soulful track and very catchy, requires more than one listen to get into it.

Score : 4 / 5

1998

Taken from BOSS Management Press Release

CICERO are a newly formed pop band made up of "Dave Cicero" (who has had a number of world-wide hits and has also written for various movie soundtracks since being discovered by the Pet Shop Boys) and "Deniece", the beautiful vocalist who has provided the main vocals for many leading bands.  Cicero recently reached #9 in the USA Club Charts with "Summertime".

This powerful duo have combined with gorgeous dancers "Lesley & Jenna" to form a very potent force which is ready to take the pop scene by storm.  They have what it takes to get to the top - vibrant new material, bags of talent, plus the added allure of being attractive to both sexes, providing the music scene with a fresh and new combination which has not been seen for years - a boy / girl band.

CICERO are building up a huge fanbase as they tour the UK, they have received tremendous praise from Club and Radio DJ's who have heard their new tracks and they are attracting a lot of attention from the Continent and the USA.  They have a bright future ahead of them and will become one of the UK's top pop bands and exports over the next couple of years.

Night Train
(Written by Dave Cicero & Deniece Dickson : Produced by Dave Cicero)
Vocals by "Deniece" / Spoken words by "Dave"

Bringing a fresh feel to the line-up and also a great new "Euro-pop" sound, which was popular in the late Nineties.  The new vocalist's singing is a lot more soulful and a wider vocal range bringing new depths to the sound of Cicero.  There is also a spoken part during the song by Dave.  A return to form !!

Score : 5 / 5

Wish  (Version 2)
(Written & Produced by Dave Cicero)
Vocals by "Deniece" & "Dave"

This is a much improved reworking on the original version of this song mentioned earlier.  The production and backing track is greatly enhanced and the "marriage" of Deniece & Dave's vocals is superb.  This track should be sitting in all of our cd collections.

Score : 5 / 5

Please Stay
(Written by Dave Cicero & Deniece Dickson : Produced by Dave Cicero)
Vocals by "Deniece"

This track is slower than the latest of Cicero's offerings but the mood is good and has an almost "swing" feel to it.  Slightly reminiscent of OMD in the early 80's (remember Maid Of Orleans & Souvenir ?).  A beautiful backing track and great lyrics, quite a moving song actually.

Score : 5 / 5

Saturday Night
(Written by Dave Cicero & Deniece Dickson : Produced by Dave Cicero)
Vocals by "Deniece" & "Dave"

"DISCO" says it all .......... but done badly !!!  The lyrics are a bit cheesy, reminds me of the dreadful 70's song "Ring My Bell".  How many bands have tried the 70's disco revival thing, only to have it fall flat, and yes that includes the Pet Shop Boys. A poor track, and a shame after the previous track record of songs from the new Cicero line-up.

Score : 2 / 5
