EXTREME - STOP THE WORLD!
Rolf Boscheinen
(Edel Company)
1993

Although you can only read this if you're fluent in German, this is a cool book. In 97 pages, it covers the first shows, the first three albums (including 'bit by bit' descriptions of Pornograffitti and III Sides), Extreme's unscandalous image, and a section about each member. It also includes 1991 and 1992 European tour dates, and tons of nice pictures (many of which I haven't seen in magazines)!

KERRANG! THE DIREKTORY OF HEAVY METAL
Editor: Neil Jeffries
(Virgin Books)
1993

Yaaay! Almost a whole page of praise for the 'Treme in this fun, yet thorough, guide to rock warriors and headbangin' heroes. The info is spot on, there's a pic of Nune with his N4, and Baby Animals get a mention too (love the description of Suze - "Femininity and balls? She's gottit!"). The bands are in alphabetical order for ease of reference, and there's even a handwritten introduction by Metallica's James Hetfield (spelling mistakes, scribbles and all!).

THE BEST OF METAL: THE ESSENTIAL CD GUIDE
Paul Elliot & Jon Hotten
(Orion Books)
1993

Alright as a reference for metal-beginners, but Extreme-wise, it sucks. They rate a couple of mentions in this opinionated publication: a disdainful comparison to Red Hot Chili Peppers, and their own page in the 'Who's Who'. And although III Sides is mentioned in the text, the editors fail to include it in the CD guide at the back of the book - is that pathetic or what?

THE VIRGIN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ROCK
Editor: Michael Heatley
(Virgin Books)
1993

Extreme get their piece of the action in the 'Metal' section of this comprehensive guide to music. Nothing outstanding about its history of Extreme; the strength of this encyclopedia lies in the range of music it covers, and its treatment of rock roots, legends, important records, culture, and data (1955-1993). A bit confusing with its categories - some things aren't where you'd expect them to be - and it's not totally comprehensive; still, for those of us into music history, this book is pretty darn good!
