Review by Holly Winkler Setlist: Unchained, Without You, One I Want, Mean Street, When It's Love, Fire In The Hole, Why Can't This Be Love, Romeo Delight, drum solo, Dreams, Humans Being, Somebody Get Me A Doctor, Year To The Day, guitar solo, Right Now, Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, Josephina, Panama, Jump I had been waiting for this show for so long that during the opening act, I thought I'd just leap out of my seat and scream. I was ready to see the mighty Van Halen 3! Then Eddie walked out playing Unchained. The entire crowd just leaped to their feet in a frenzy and began screaming. Anyone who had previously doubted Gary's abilities was having second thoughts right about then. That man has energy and a stage presence like you would not believe (unless you've seen them live already). He was all over the stage, dancing around Eddie and Mike, having the time of his life. The crowd was loving it. Eddie, the mighty guitar king, true to form played a perfect show. His solo was right in the middle of Year to the day, and it was great. His intro to mean street was better than even the cd. He couldn't have been happier or played any better. Alex, cast, neckbrace and all, was just slamming away on those drums. His solo, played with another drum track was just awesome. Alex is truly the biggest baddest drummer in the world. When they started in on Somebody Get Me A Doctor, and they brought out the Jack Daniels bass, well Mikey's whole face just lit up. I've never seen a man happier in my life. He did the lead vocals, too, and just after the song, one of the crewmen brought out a bottle of Jack Daniels and he took one big old gulp. The crowd was still going ballistic. The old songs that they mixed in with the new, they sounded like new songs, with a touch of deja vu with Gary singing them. He added his own wicked style to make the songs that were already great better. Dave or Sammy couldn't touch him!! In between somersaults across the stage, Gary stopped to tease the crowd about "it being a school night and all" and that maybe it was time to go. We all greeted this with an emphatic no, and they went into panama. I wished the night would never end. In short, this was the best concert I've ever attended I do believe. I highly recommend seeing them when they pass your way. |
