From this week's Private Eye:
"God has communicated to me that those of us who preach the gospels
must have the courage to face the scoffing and laughter of people,"
Chen Hon-Ming told his followers in the Dallas suburb of Garland.
"Even so, my prediction that God would broadcast live on Channel 18
Television last week has not been realised, nor has he made the
personal visit to Dallas which I prophesied. In fact, his conduct so
far has not been encouraging."
Chen Hon-Ming, known to his followers as Teacher Chen, was addressing
the 150 members of his Taiwanese cult, who moved en masse to Texas
last year as part of their preparations for the end of the world.
"Regrettably, it appears that everything I have preached to you over
the past four years has turned out to be shit. God did not appear on
Channel 18 television on 21 March. The sun has not disappeared. There
has not been a nuclear holocaust, and we have not been rescued by
flying saucers and taken to an other planet. I give up."
