Every week more than 120 blind and partially-sighted people across the Braintree,Witham, Halstead, Dunmow and Maldon areas of Essex listen to up to date local newsfrom their town or village, on audio tapes supplied free by the Mid Essex News Tapesfor the Blind. Radio and television can give you national, international and countynews, but it is only the local newspaper that can tell you what is happening on yourdoorstep. For those unable to read, volunteers have been taping news stories weeklysince 1981 from the various editions of the BRAINTREE AND WITHAM TIMES, HALSTEADGAZETTE, and the MALDON AND BURNHAM STANDARD.
