The weekly news digest, on one and a half hour tapes (C90), is free to visually-impaired people living in the Mid-Essex area which stretches from Halstead in the north to Burnham in the south and from Dunmow in the west to Coggeshall, Kelvedon and Feering in the East.
Our tapes are free to those who are registered blind or partially sighted whose close-up vision is of N12 or less quality. Approaches can be made to us direct by the would-be listener, their family, friends, social workers or through blind clubs or county librarians who work with the visually impaired.
Formalities are minimal. We simply need confirmation details of sight condition, name, address and telephone number; whether the loan of a tape recorder is needed and whether the applicant is experienced in handling tape material.
For those who own their own casette player, mailing can start almost immediately. If a machine is needed, we offer one on free loan and a volunteer will arrange to visit and show how it should be used. Mailing will commence as soon as tapes can be played.
The talking newspaper tape should be returned within one week by replacing in the pouch, reversing the address label and posting. There is no postal charge to pay.
Applications should be made to the Mid Essex Newstapes Association for the Blind.
