The Mayflower group is currently based at the Nene Valley Railway near Peterborough. Its original role was to give support and operational assistance in the running of steam loco LNER B1 Mayflower. This was extended to include the overhauling of the loco which has been in hand since 1990. Other locos etc. came along and these also came under the same umbrella. The initial overhaul and then maintenance and operation of a Class 40, 2 class 14s, a 4w diesel shunter, a Mk1 BSK coach and a Vanfit goods wagon. A further steam loco No. 39 Rhos is currently receiving a full overhaul.
The group is interested in railways generally and covers restorations, overhauls and maintenance, and the operation of the rolling stock. It is a small group and anyone with labour or skills to offer and some spare time, would be welcome to join us.
