Before any questions asked, YES, I'm joining the fry! So, cut the chase,
and be done with it.
Situation 1:
Say... you are a fan of BAYWATCH. You have it on TV, but you want to tape it. VHS sucks, it got screwed over time (fungus, tear, you name it). HEY, you have a capture card!!!! Hrm... VCD.. oh, nooooo picture is not good enuff. ASF? nahhhh.. maybe.. maybe later. SVCD then. SVCD? Hrm... ok, let's try this.
It happens that you capture your favorite BAYWATCH episode directly with your capture card. You have either a nice 720x480 29.97fps (NTSC), or 720x576 25fps (PAL) .AVI files with AUDIO in it (WAV of course).
From here, you can start with the FREELY DISTRIBUTED AVI2MPG by Brent Beyeler. A certain version of it has SVCD template. Remember, DO NOT MULTIPLEX THE AUDIO/VIDEO. Let AVI2MPG spits out single VIDEO file (.MPV) and SINGLE AUDIO file (.MPA/.MP2). Now, you have VIDEO.MPV and AUDIO.MPA (.MP2)
What to do now? Wait.... we have the next situation.
Situation 2:
You are a videophile. You capture your BAYWATCH favorite episodes (yes, with them boobs in it) with an expensive MPEG2 Video Capture Card, and an AC3 Dolby AUDIO CAPTURE BOX. He he he.. you have nice 720x480 29.97fps (NTSC), or 720x576 25fps (PAL) VIDEO.M2V and AUDIO.AC3. What to do? Ahhh... reMPEG2 v. 1.4.3 is your way to go! Choose the 480x480, and feed your .M2V, CORRECTLY CALCULATE THE BITRATE (I would go for 1.5mbits up to 2.0mbits MAXIMUM).
What about audio? You have captured it in .AC3 format. Easy, load Graphedit,
open your .AC3, and then add proper filters to save it as .WAV. When you
done and have your AUDIO.WAV, fire up DVMPEG. Load your AUDIO.WAV, and
make it into AUDIO.MPA/.MP2. It's a straightforward process. You can do
it :)
You see, both Situation 1 and Situation 2 gives you VIDEO.M2V and AUDIO.MPA/.MP2.
RENAME the VIDEO.M2V into VIDEO.MPV.
Now, it's pucker time!
Load I-Author MULTIPLEXER, then input your VIDEO.MPV and AUDIO.MPA in it. You can actually put 2 AUDIO files (different language, if you also save the Spanish second language of that BAYWATCH episode...).
See the picture above? If you can make something like that on your PC, then it's time to hit the "START" button. Take a break, find some cigarettes, get laid, wutever :)
When it finishes, you have yourself a VIDEO_AUDIO.MPS.
Now, you have a VIDEO and AUDIO in 1 single file, and if all done correctly, the file is SVCD compliant MPEG2 stream. Now its the time to decide whether your planned SVCD should have a menu or not. Hey, why hesitate, let's have 1 menu!!!
The objective is now to make an SVCD which would work like this:
insert CD --- Load player --- Menu shown --- Click on PLAY (or a particular NUMERIC KEY) --- SVCD plays to the end --- GO back to Menu.
Cool? You bet. How to achieve this? Let's begin.
1. Fire up I-Author. Click NEW, the screen below will appear.
2. Choose "PROJECT FILE" and click OK. The following menu below will appear.
3. Make sure its Super VCD you want. Browse and type your intended .VPJ file, and click OK. The following Wizard menu will appear.
4. Read the instruction and sunk it in your thick head. Now Click "NEXT" button. Some explanation: SVCD works by playing "PLAY_ITEM" lists in the correct order. What is "PLAY_ITEM" lists? It's the materials you will put to make this SVCD a working/valid one. Remember, we want 1 MENU which will automatically get displayed, and we want to click on certain button to make the BAYWATCH episode plays.
5. Follow the steps on this Wizard by the screenshots below.
6. Make a blank (black) .BMP menu of 480x480. Name this DUMMY.BMP. We need this to cheat the player (which will play the PLAY_ITEM lists in sequence). When the screen above appears, click "ADD" and choose your DUMMY.BMP. Then click "NEXT". The following screen will appear.
8. Now, make another 480x480 .BMP as fancy as you could. Add flavors, make boobs and buttocks, but don't forget to include some sort of BUTTON or Typeface saying "PLAY" or "HIT ME" :). When you're done with the creativity impulse, go back to I-Author, at the screen above, and add that MENU.BMP, then click the "ADD" button so your MENU.BMP will appear in the box at the bottom, like the screen below.
9. When you finish with this part, hit the "NEXT" button. It will bring you to the screen below. The main idea is that the MENU.BMP will CONNECT you to the BAYWATCH episode (the .MPS) when certain KEY/BUTTON is clicked.
10. See, now the Wizard part of the creation is done. Click the "FINISH" button and let's deal with the REAL AUTHORING :)
11. Ok, we're gonna have the screen like below.
12. Double-click on the P.Item1 (the first thing to be played when SVCD disc is inserted). HEY... ITS THE DUMMY.BMP!!!! Great, this is the "cheat" I found to be very useful for the plan. Now, we want to set this so that, when it is played (as a blank/black screen), it would AUTOMATICALLY jump to the PLAY_ITEM 2, which is........ YES, THE MENU!!!!. Check the screen below.
13. See, at the right bottom we have a FIRST PLAY box checked, which means this SEGMENT is going to be played NUMERO UNO! ALso, by default, the "WAIT" is set at 5 seconds. We don't want that. We want this PLAY_ITEM1 to jump RIGHTAWAY to ITEM2. So, we set the WAIT option to.... NO WAIT. Click ok, then you're back to the main Display.
14. Now, we doubleclick on the M:Item2, which is... OUR MENU!. The screen below will follow. Ok, let's get some logic here. We want the MENU to be displayed ALL THE TIME, untill we click on certain KEY/BUTTON, and the BAYWATCH episode plays. Look at the screen below.
15. See we set the WAIT to INFINITE, and the NEXT/DEFAULT PLAY_ITEM is ITEM3 (our .MPS). By default, Numeric Key 01 or 1 is set as the particular BUTTON to hit when we want to play our BAYWATCH here. The PREVIOUS and RETURN setting is ITEM1, which we have set to JUMP RIGHT AWAY to ITEM2 (remember?). So, all is well here. Click OK, and we're back to the main screen.
16. Now is the time to check the actual BAYWATCH.MPS or PLAY_ITEM3. Doubleclick it, and the screen below will appear.
17. All system checked. The BAYWATCH.MPS (or THX.MPS on this sample), will play from START to END. PREVIOUS and RETURN are connected to ITEM2 (which is our MENU), and NEXT item is ITEM2 (menu). Set the WAIT to "NO WAIT" and click OK.
18. YESSSS.... now you are ready to create an image file.
19. Name the .CIF file, and click "SAVE" button.
20. When the .CIF file is created, burn it with Adaptec EasyCD Creator.
Pheww.. insert your SVCD, and run WinDVD. It would automatically display the menu. Click on PLAY button on WinDVD panel. Enjoy.
Or, run STHSDVD software (www.herosoft.com), same thing. Menu displayed,
but HIT NUMERIC KEY 1 on your keyboard (or next in STHSDVD panel). Enjoy
:)
Oh.... any question? visit the usual channel. I'll be around here and there. If you have successfully made your SVCD using this tuts, feel free to contribute any Store Credits or Coupons or Gift Certificate for amazon/reel/anydvdstore :)))
Lastly, I want to compliment the peeps that have helped me in this process.
But since I don't know whether they want their names attached to this HowTo,
I'll wait for them to ask me to put their names. Hey, MAIL me, contact
me. I will put your names (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE).
