Notes:

31 Danny Lorenz and 31 Joaquin Gage started in nets.  The Panthers' starting forward lines were Hadden/Poirier/Sjogren, Drouin/Jinman/Wallenberg, Tait/Moria/Savoie.  The Panthers' starting defensive lines were Drolet/Carlsson, Norris/Pope, Norris/Paek with Norris double shifting to cover the injured Darren Maloney.

At 15.36 netminder 31 Danny Lorenz had to be treated for a neck injury after 15 Johan Molin crashed the net and collided with him.  He continued after treatment in the crease.

At 38.33, 61 Christian Sjogren fell badly near the boards and play had to be stopped as he stood slumped against the plexi.  He appeared to have headbutted the glass.  Sjogren was unable to continue and left the ice.  21 Ashley Tait played in his place on the line with Hadden and Poirier, while 44 Barry Nieckar filled Tait's spot on the third line with Moria and Savoie.

At 10.54, 4 Brent Pope got into a scuffle with 30 Dino Bauba.  Play was stopped as a Too Many Men penalty occurred simultaneously.  Bauba was given 2+2+10 apparently for Attempted Spearing on Pope.

Great match last night, I thought the entire team played very well. At times they looked like a bunch of sharks circling in front of the Ayr net. (I'm sure that's how Ayr felt too at times) Great to see Barry back in the line up as well...probably contributed to a good clean game, keeping the Ayr boys in order. Overall - it's the best game I've seen all year.

Great game last night I really enjoyed it.
I personally thought Tait deserved the MOM as I thought he was excellent for the whole game, although Lorenz was also superb, as were the defence.
Paek played a very steady game and showed alot of class at the back.
Great goals too, I don't think there was a soft one amongst them.

The thing with Danny last night was that he never had to make a double save( well maybe 2) The D's positioning was great last night and they were first to every rebound which is the reason for the 1 in the Ayr Column. However, if Molin had put a couple of his chances away though it would have been a different story, He was their best player by miles last night, another sign of the growing scandinavian influence creeping in.

Last night was a great result but lets not get carried away, I think next week will be alot different. I thought the game was very open considering it was Ayr. Nice goals from Drouin and Carlsson.

As for MOM sorry but it was never Tait!! It should have been Danny Lorenz. The guy made 40 saves, I think that say's it all.

Coupla points about last night, good game actually enjoyed it, even mark said it was one of our best this yr however as tambo said the ayr players were told to behave and that is exactly what they did, looking at it from their pov which would they rather win this week or next? As for players well hadden showed his usual commitment or should that be lack of and as for pope playing well? maybe its cos he seemed to get alot of shifts but i thought he was well ropey. One other point about the game lorenz was superb but facing 41 yes FOURTY ONE shots on goal at home just isnt right ok gage had 37 BUT 41 shots thats about 15 too many its about 97.5% save MOM for my money. If they have that many next week it could well be a different story.

Enjoyed that. Excellent play from the Panthers. I've not seen them play a bad one yet this year. Very impressed. We couldn't choose between Wallenburg, Lorenz and Tait for MOM as they were all excellent. I like Sjogren aswell. Excellent skater and pretty nifty. Good to see Horace Boris get a goal - and Barry miss an absolute sitter (me and our lass nearly p**sed ourselves). Class.

Great work from the stripeys tonight.  That's the first time I've seen Ayr this season and I'm assuming they're not normally as bad as that. No slight on the Panthers though. That was a great show tonight - a lot of fun to watch.

fantastic game tonight, the whole team played well but the defence was exceptional! my MOM was Pope for his superb performance from the back, really solid play. The whole D managed to get to every rebound first all night which made danny's job 10 times easier. Thought Paek was great as well, really steady at the back and able to pass the puck out of the zone where a lesser player would have dumped it.

After their goal in the 2nd period instead of doing the usual give up 2 more we got our head down and played some superb hockey, fastflowing, great passing and good finishing, a joy to watch.

I think it'll be different next time round though, Ayr will use that 3-0 cushion to kill the game if they can, if we get some breaks though it could be a different story.

Great reffing tonight as well, although the players made it easy for him by playing it clean yet hard(about time too.) The only downers were sjogren getting a skate to the head and the crappy intro.

Just back from the game, thought the lads were very impressive and made Ayr look like a weak side. Good team performance all round--forwards linking up well and the defence seems much much better-the presence of Paek...? Nice to see D-men actually doing all things possible to prevent a goal and Danny was class. Favourite moments...Calle's double block in the first period and Drolet's control of the puck as it was trickling under Danny's legs and going goal wards. If we play like we did tonight, we'll win the 2nd leg against Ayr no problem.

Thoroughly enjoyed that game last night, and not just because we won - the overall team effort was quite admirable IMHO....

Choosing MoM must have been a bit hard - I don't quibble in the slightest about Ashley Tait getting the award - did someone put him back on the red meat diet? ;-)) Although he showed that he really knew how to find the back of the net! (after being hauled down by an Ayr player, that is....).
Other notables:
Patrik Wallenberg - is he trained as a sanitation engineer or something? He always seemed to be there to 'pick up the trash' - grabbing as many rebounds as he could - some fine skating work from him as well.
Brent Pope - a solid game for him, I thought, and that catch & clear that would otherwise have been a goal against.... lovely.
Danny Lorenz - he must be a walking bruise today, did he put in TOTAL effort or what? Also, as Hugh said, the defence picked up rebounds & loose pucks brilliantly - inspired by The Return Of Jimmy perhaps?
Jimmy Paek - what can I say? It's like he never left.... positioning, passing etc - all near perfect. And he STILL doesn't look like he's doing much because he keeps it economical. Class, sheer class.

It makes me laugh, though, with some Ayr fans saying that they didn't play it physical at all last night. Yeah - less than normal, I'll agree with that. But someone had better check the Panthers players for incipient hunchbacks, 'cos the sheer amount of time they were skating forwards being hunched over for being held/hooked etc... Bony-Farce was half asleep, I swear. I must admit, I did like the way he completely ignored the early dive by Bristow, where he lay full-length on the ice staring at the ref with an imploring look on his face! LOL!

On the subject of stripeys, has Staniforth forgotten that he's (mostly) only a linesman? I thought that only the ref was allowed to 'give' a goal by pointing at the net, yet it was Staniforth that did so for our 4th goal! Maybe Nigel's going to enlist the GMB to 'have a word' with Staniforth on the subject of job demarcation?? ;-))

Only just got back to my keyboard after Saturday. NIFFTY NIFFTY NIFFTY ! He was great ! Some of the passes to the forwards he made diagonally across the rink could've gone through the eye of a needle. He can still poke check opponents out of their shorts too.

Agree that Tait as MOM wasn't my vote either and yes, I'd have given it Danny for some fantastic saves. Also did the return of Niffty put a rocket up Brent Pope's backside or what ? Possibly the best game I've seen him play.

And wonder of wonders, Drouin and Jinman actually started passing to each other ! The first two goals where great set up plays and when Ayr got one back, we didn't fold, we went back in there and carried on scoring. Excellent stuff.
