Notes:

31 Danny Lorenz and 1 Eoin McInerney played in nets.  42 Paul Moran dressed for the Panthers but did not play.  The Panthers starting forward lines were Poirier/Hadden/Wallenberg, Tait/Drouin/Jinman, Nieckar/Moria/Savoie.  The Panthers starting defensive lines were Drolet/Maloney, Evans/Norris, Pope/Carlsson.

The Steelers Delay Of Game penalty at 9.58 occurred when a face off took place with the Steelers seemingly having 7 out skaters in the face off.  Most likely this was a badly blown line change and referee Carson gave the penalty as he had already had words with the Steelers' bench about making late line changes.

At 23.56, 19 Scott Allison and 44 Barry Nieckar bumped into each other a bit and seemingly by mutual consent dropped the gloves.  The fight that had been brewing since the bench clearance brawl last season went something like this.  Both men pulled off their pads and gloves, but kept their helmets on.  A few punches were thrown to no great effect before they locked up.  In the wrestling match that followed Nieckar overpowered Allison, pulling his helmet off and then proceeded to pummel him somewhat.  Allison received many uppercut and overhand punches to the head, before falling to his knees as the stripeys dived in to save him.  Nieckar triumphantly went to the penalty bin as the crowd chanted his name.  Allison bled his way to the bench shrugging to his team-mates that he 'couldn't do anything'.  He left the ice to receive treatment to his badly cut eye as the crowd deafened him with chants of 'LOSER !'.  Nieckar meanwhile laughed his head off in the sin bin.  Both received 5 minute penalties for Fighting, but 8 Bob Maudie sat out Allison's penalty for him as he wasn't able.

Both the penalty to 77 Calle Carlsson at 47.45 and to 4 Brent Pope at 51.04 were for fouls apparently committed against 93 Rick Brebant.  Both Panthers players were incensed and took Brebant to task after referee Carson blew up.

The Panthers called a timeout at 58.50 and pulled their netminder shortly after play restarted.

After the game, 4 Brent Pope went to the Steelers bench and told Steelers' coach Mike Blaisdell exactly what he thought of 93 Rick Brebant's antics.

Yes OK Carson did give that whole series of penalties on us which left us 5 on 3 down for ages until they scored and when Calle Carlsson is squaring up to lamp someone about the injustice of it all you know that he probably wasn't guilty of owt, but POWERPLAYS POWERPLAYS POWERPLAYS ! Look at the shots tally for the first period: 14 - 5. We should have buried them. I saw at least three or four occasions tonight where one of our players had the puck on the edge of the crease and had to hit the target. Big Mac had a good game for the Steelers but not that good, the shots flew high and wide AAARGH ! By the way, bit difficult to cheer for Eoin's return to the NIC when you can't even hear his name being announced, but he is well thought of and everyone I spoke to said he had a good game.

Agree about Jinman. He was a joy to watch tonight. Remember the delayed penalty when he's behind the net and the defender is all over him and he not once but twice played the puck off the back of the net either side of the defender to get round him ? It was the cheekiest double nutmeg I've ever seen. He did some great stuff out there.

Also good to see Hadden's awesome slapshot hitting home again. He plugged away all night. Thought Poirier stuck at it too.

Comedy Moment Of The Match: Referee Carson takes out tough guy Paul Kruse. I don't know how he did it, but Kruse went flying as he passed him next to the boards. At least he's good for something.

It really is getting beyond a joke now. Yet again Carson wins Panthers opposition a game with some disgraceful calls. Tonight a Steelers 5 on 3 is converted. Saturday 15th September, two dubious 5 on 3 powerplays give Ayr the points, penalties called by one Andy Carson.
Before I get flamed by everyone, I know we should have had the game wrapped up by the end of the first, and I know the ref does not score our goals BUT the game was poised at 1-1.
Everyone knows Brebant is a cheating little b*****d but he manged to go down from the supposed 'high sticking' like he'd been shot, but the incompetent ref gave the penalty.
What really annoyed me though was when Greg Hadden was hauled down in front of Carson he didn't give the PP, incredible it was so blatent. If Carson thought it wasn't a trip why didn't he give Hadden 2 minutes for the dive?
I'm am heartily sick of seeing referees decide the outcome of matches. It is driving people away from the game, and to be totally honest I am even considering not buying a season ticket next season. I am becoming increasingly dissalusioned with the game because of several factors. The farce at Newcastle, the Cardiff situation, the fact that a team cheats their way to four trophies and is allowed to keep them, but what pisses me off more than anything is that the standard of refereeing is getting worse and nothing is ever done about it.
In what other sport would an official be allowed to referee a match which involved a team 12 miles from where he lives and a team which his wife activly supports???
British Ice Hockey is becoming farcical, and fans will start to drift away if there isn't an almighty shake up soon.

CARSON DID HIS BEST TO SPOIL THE GAME YET AGAIN.
But the fact is sheffield scored two powerplay goals.
Did we? We had the opportunities. As they say if you dont score you dont win.
Is this another game adey/dampier claim we should have won. Its starting to become a habit.

Well, it's a case of won the fight, lost the game, and I think Panthers were hard done to. We had plenty of chances to win the game but McInerney was in good form. When oh when are we going to learn to finish? Generally a scappy game, with indifferent hockey played by both sides.

I expect the highlight was the scrap, and Nieckar definitely won that one. Good un, Baz.

Is there any way we can do anything about the poor reffing in this league? Or do we have to put up with this rubbish for ever. Is there an email address for the Superleague anyone? In my opinion Carson ruined what could have been a good game by letting the really dirty stuff go, and calling the silly stuff. And once again Carson fell for Brebant faking it. Please, let's get some refs over from Canada to teach this lot what to do - they are useless.

I felt sorry for the boys tonight - they tried very hard but just could not get the winner. Roll on Saturday and let's get behind the Panthers. They need us right now.
