* Did Not Dress

Notes:

31 Danny Lorenz and 37 Mark Cavallin started in nets.  Joel Poirier was named as the Panthers' Captain before this game.  The Panthers' starting forward line were Hadden/Poirier/Savoie, Drouin/Moria/Tait, Neickar/Jinman/Wallenberg.  The Panthers' starting defensive lines were Drolet/Maloney, Carlsson/Pope, Norris/Evans.  Panthers' newly signed netminder Christian Bronsard did not dress for this game as his paperwork wasn't ready.

At 0.16 a fight broke out after 8 Clayton Norris and 28 Jason Bowen bumped into each other a bit on the blue line and decided this was worth dropping the gloves over.  Much dancing about ensued before the two men locked up.  Norris punched Bowen's helmet off and ended up on top of him on the ice as the stripeys dived in.  Both received this season's new penalty of 5 minutes for Fighting although it was still announced as Roughing.

The Giants' Too Many Men penalty at 5.11 was sat out by 27 Paxton Schulte.

The Giants goal at 13.35 was scored on a delayed penalty with their netminder pulled.

At 13.54, 28 Jason Bowen appeared to elbow 17 PC Drouin into the boards.  No call was given and 44 Barry Neickar 'had words' with the offending player at the next break in play.

At 27.43, 23 Chad Allan broke away clear on goal.  8 Clayton Norris dived at him trying to get his stick on the puck and stopped the attack unfortunately by Slashing Allan.  Allan took umbrage and the two men went for each other.  Rowe awarded 2 minutes each for Roughing and another 2 on Norris for Slashing.

At 32.48, 31 Danny Lorenz went down injured in his crease after a goal mouth scramble in which 4 Brent Pope and a Giant fell over him.  He received treatment on the ice and was able to continue shortly afterward, although his back appeared to be troubling him.

At 33.57, 27 Paxton Schulte high sticked 32 Joel Poirier and 4 Brent Pope waded in to defend his Captain.  A fight ensued which ended up in a tangle on the deck.  Referee Rowe gave both men 5 minutes and an addition gave Schulte 2 minutes for the high stick on Poirier.

At 34.16, 32 Joel Poirier appeared to catch 28 Jason Bowen with a high stick as he dumped the puck.  Bowen left the ice bleeding from a cut beside his right eye.  No penalty was given.

The Giants goal at 36.26 was scored on a delayed penalty although they hadn't pulled their netminder by the time it was scored.

The Panthers' Too Many Men penalty at 37.11 was sat out by 44 Barry Neickar.

The Roughing penalties on 8 Clayton Norris and 23 Chad Allan at 54.06 appeared to given for 'looking at each other in a funny way', presumably as a result of their earlier scuffle.

32 Joel Poirier's Illegal Equipment penalty at 55.01 resulted from him playing on after having lost his helmet.

At 57.49, a scuffle broke out at a break in play with the crease crowded with players.  As the stripeys tried to untangle everyone, 28 Jason Bowen and 55 Darren Maloney fell out and started flailing at each other, but it was broken up before it escalated.  No penalty was given.

At 58.50, the Giants called a time out and pulled their netminder.

At 59.40, the Panthers called a time out.

An edge of the seat game. We kept going two goals ahead and then relaxing and letting them get one back. Great to see Carlsson break his duck from the blueline and also to see Drolet doing the same for our first goal.

As I've said on numerous occasions, CLAYTON NORRIS IS BONKERS. 16 seconds for gods sake ! They only bumped into each other a bit and its gloves off. He is a very chippy player and seems to randomly have a go at anyone. After the Illegal Equipment call on Poirier for playing on without a helmet, did anyone notice Norris quite deliberately pulling Hoad's lid off to force him to leave the ice or give up a powerplay. Not exactly cricket, but hey if it works. Norris also stopped Chad Allan's breakaway which had goal written all over it. OK, so he dived flailing his stick at Allan and ended up slashing him instead on taking the puck, but he never got the shot away. Methinks Norris might take Baz's heavyweight title this year.

Danny Lorenz. Hmmmmmmm. So that's why we pay him the big bucks then. True he looks like a starfish out there throwing his limbs in all directions, but THAT DIVING POKECHECK to dispossess the attacker clear in on goal was out of this world. Any the mid-air, overhead snatch save. Amazing. Hope the back injury isn't too bad.

Darren Maloney showed some of what he's worth too. The air tennis trick trying to get the puck under control was good. He hit it about three times before it bounced.

Comedy Moment Of The Match: How pale did Alan Levers go when Lorenz went down injured ? I thought we'd signed Casper The Ghost as our back up !

Great game of hockey very intense start, especially with Norris & Bowen having a go after 16 secs. Danny Lorenz had a fantastic game & could not be blamed for any of the goals.  I couldn't believe Rowe allowed the third. Jinman had a good start and I think he can only get better and seemed to have a good understanding with Walenberg already. Pope was unlucky to get the 5 min fighting penalty as he just happened to be there at the time after Schulte sticked Porier in the head then cross checked in the back. Gave a good account of himself in the fight. We are looking strong, lets hope we can keep the ball rolling at London on Thursday.

Danny Lorenz - what can I say?? He has to have one of the best glove saves in the ISL (anyone else notice him doing the "Patrick Roy Salute" with it?), and that poke-check! WELL deserved MoM, methinks.... Still giving up rebounds, but unlike 'Our Willie' he does seem to be able to control them. Was a lot faster than last week at getting back up again, too - at least before he was injured! He does need to cut down on the wandering, though - seems nowhere near as confident as Willis was out of his crease.

Did anyone else see the relief on poor Alan Levers' face when he realised that Lorenz was NOT coming off due to injury? - you got to feel for the lad at the prospect of facing forwards like that (though if he'd saved a few, I bet we'd have raised the ruddy roof!)

As for the rest of the team - Maloney looks a lot better - good hands on him. Hadden was doing great work again at both ends of the ice (yes, Texpef AGAIN said that he had a good game!!) - Jinman looks good - could he be replacing Hadders on the face-offs? Poirier? - what a star, he never gives up! Drouin again was getting shut down by the opposing D - getting a leeetle frustrated with it... And Brent Pope just seems to be faster, tougher & more skilled than before - good work, good punches!

What the **** was it with Norris then? - 16 seconds in, and already he drops the gloves?? He is still worrying me - possibly IMHO the one bad signing we have made.....

CAN WE HAVE NEW STRIPEYS PLEASE??? Not only did Rowe miss some blatant stick-holding, hooking & other calls (that boarding against Drouin?), but someone needs to teach him to get out of the ****ing way of the puck and players! I counted at least two times he blocked clearances from our zone (and at least one from theirs), plus a couple of times he got in the way of our players! Evans The Liney was on a 3-second time delay all night, and neither side-stripey could see an offside to save his life!

Overall, I think a good team performance against what was a surprisingly chippy and unpleasant Belfast side.

Good game all round thought the Panthers wiped the ice with the Giants in the first 10 minutes and should have been about 6 up but they came flying back. Danny Lorenz PLAYED AN ABSOLUTE BLINDER< WHAT A GLOVE HAND!!!! cant fault they guy definitey won the match for us come the end is all I say and had to be the MoM. Some nice work all round and Lee Jinman looks like he is fitting in already dont you think, a sound addition to the squad. On that form however it looks like Mr Bronsard could be getting splinters for some time.

Thought we made them look good tonight - two soft goals one a give away by the ever reliable Moria and the other with Ruff sitting on Lorenz, who had a great game I thought. We played some great hockey, I was a good game all round but failed to capitalise on a better quality of possession. Rowe had his first crap game for me - seemed intent on evening things up by calling a five on three and a four on three and Poirier for illegal equipment and then not Belfast.

All in all not too bad given the Rowe factor but could do better - especially on clearing our D zone. Jinman looked lively, thought Wallenberg had a great game, not sure about Savoie yet good to see Clayton refusing to be intimidated and hats off to Pope for standing upto Schulte and giving him as good as he got. Drolet and Evans did pretty well, thought Maloney had his best game yet, Carlson was great on offense, thought his defensive play was a bit lax at times. Still a big team and one of the favorites for the title and we won. Hope it keeps up against the crew from up the road.
