** Delay Of Game

Notes:

31 Danny Lorenz and 1 Eoin McInerney started in nets.  The Panthers' starting forward lines were Tait/Moria/Drouin, Wallenberg/Hadden/Sjogren, Savoie/Weber/Nieckar.  The Panthers' starting defensive lines were Drolet/Maloney, Evans/Norris, Evans/Carlsson with the five D-men rolling round thereafter.  This was the debut of 61 Christian Sjogren.  72 Lee Jinman and 32 Joel Poirier were both injured and 17 P.C. Drouin carried the captaincy in Poirier's absence.

This game marked the 300th game of 10 Randall Weber and the 200th game of 21 Ashley Tait.

At 19.51, there was a scuffle as 75 Cal Benazic pinned 5 Patrick Wallenberg on the boards and a wrestling match ensued.  They ended up on the deck and had to be pulled apart.  Benazic received 2 minutes for Holding and Wallenberg got likewise for Roughing.

The High Sticks penalty on 61 Christian Sjogren at 21.05 resulted when he caught 19 Scott Allison in the face with the tip of his stick as they were skating round the back of the Panthers' net.  Allison went to his bench bleeding from a cut lip and there was a stoppage as the blood had to be cleared up.  In the break, Steelers coach Mike Blaisdell illustrated a few plays to his players by scrawling them in marker pen on the upper side of the boards.  He made an attempt to wipe them out afterward as the home fans shouted down that he was technically vandalising our arena.

At 21.51, 93 Rick Brebant entertained the Nottingham crowd by losing his balance and skating face first into the boards.  And there was much rejoicing, but Brebant wasn't injured.

Following the Panthers' second goal at 33.45, 1 Eoin McInerney smashed his stick on the ice in frustration and received a 10 minute Misconduct penalty.  The penalty was sat out by 9 Steve Duncan.

There was uproar from the crowd at around 36.00 as 25 Marc Twaite had got tied up with 19 Steve Moria.  Play changed direction to the other end of the ice, upon which Twaite appeared to sit on top of Moria hitting him in the back several times as he was pinned.  No penalty resulted.

31 Danny Lorenz received a mandatory 2 minute Delay Of Game penalty at 45.29 as he tried to clear the puck, but it went straight out into the crowd without touching the boards first.

At 53.39, 24 Jimmy Drolet received a 2+2 for High Sticks as the shaft of his stick caught 19 Scott Allison across the face on the halfway line.  Allison's lip was cut again as it had been when he was high sticked earlier and Drolet received the automatic 2+2 penalty.  Directly following this, the Steelers called a time out.

The Steelers pulled their netminder at 58.30.

At last we won one against the Steelers. Thought the game was really good. Like the look of Sjogren pronouced Showgren, as some kind gentleman pointed out to me. I thought he fitted in very well, and performed really great to say it was his first game, looks like we have a winner on our hands! and PC,well who un popped his cork,he's playing brilliantly at the mo. I think that they are all coming together at the right time. So Paul keep up the good work, you never know we might just get some nice silver this year!!
What a great night it was, the atmosphere was there, I think we were all a little tense to start with, but everyone warmed up.

Ah, the morning after the nite before!! The sun is shining, Man Ure lost, Leicester lost, Panthers beat the Steelers, everything is right with the world.....
:-) :-) :-)
Good debut for Sjogren, he looks quality to me, doubt we will sign anyone else unless they get a season-ending type serious injury. If Lee/Joel/AJ are all back next week, then we'll have 4 lines!!
Great game last night, great atmosphere, v.near capacity crowd, 2 fantastic PP goals from PC, think he likes being Capt'. More of the same next sun' please....

HHOOOOOOO BOY!! Was that one hell of a game or what??
First period, lots of testing the other side, and both goalies just shutting things down (come on Blaiser, let Ryan Bach have the goalie spot next Sunday - we've not seen him play yet! ;-))

What a second period - I had that familiar sinking feeling when they got that first goal... But all credit to the Panthers - they didn't let up one bit!

Steve The Steeler - I actually (shock! ;-)) agree with you mostly - except for:
"yes the Steelers took more penalties, but they were the sort that had to be taken to stop a certain scoring chance; no argument there"

What are goalies for, if not to stop scoring chances? Netminders WILL face breakaways - it's inevitable. Simply hauling down anyone who looks like they are going to get a 50%+ chance of scoring - sorry, but that's poor hockey, IMHO. Those were stupid penalties - and the Steelers paid for them big-time!

Has the 'C' given PC Drouin a new lease of life, or what?? Don't get me wrong - I'm neither complaining about his returning scoring form, nor ill-wishing Joel... but 5 goals in 2 games?? WAY TO GO P.C!!!

What the hell was McInerney going ape about?? About the only possibility I could think of would be 'man in the crease' - and that's laughable! I would PAY to see the Panthers put a man anywhere NEAR the crease on a powerplay - can't remember the last time I saw it... the biggest fault with our PP. Having said that, the PP was pretty damned good last night, overall, I thought - some great passing work, and lots of shots!

That 3rd period - I was bricking it the last few minutes..... We've thrown it away before now (regardless of who we faced), and although my heart & head said we'd hold on, that little doubt-demon was whispering in me ear!

Overall? - I thought both goalies had a good game... well, McInerney had a good game, Danny has an INCREDIBLE game! Some of those saves - oy vey!
Honourable mentions to Hadden, Carlsson, Weber, Maloney, Pope, Neickar (yes, no naughty stuff and some good work up front) and the new guy who's name I can't even remember let alone pronounce!

Oh, and wasn't it fun to hear some of the Sheffield muppets chanting "We Want Carson"?? - I bet they do....
