Notes:
The face off was delayed by 15 minutes due to a crash on the M1. The Knights played in their red and white home strip. 17 P.C. Drouin was Captain for this game as oppose to regular Captain 32 Joel Poirier. 31 Danny Lorenz and 35 David Trofimenkoff started in nets. The Panthers starting forward line was Norris/Poirier/Nieckar with Paek/Pope on D. Then the regular lines settled down as Nieckar/Moria/Savoie, Tait/Jinman/Wallenberg, Drouin/Hadden/Savoie. The Panthers starting defensive lines were Paek/Pope, Maloney/Norris, Drolet/Carlsson.
At 0.27, a check by 5 Gerad Adams on 8 Clayton Norris on the boards broke the plexi. Norris had a go at Adams after and there was a bit of a scuffle, but nothing major. No penalties were awarded and there was a ten minute break while the glass was mended.
At 11.48, 22 Greg Burke crashed the net late after the play had been whistled dead and landed on 31 Danny Lorenz, who it was well known was playing through a groin injury. 8 Clayton Norris then landed on Burke and explained in no uncertain terms that he was out of order. Again no penalties were given.
At the start of the second period, 17 P.C. Drouin switched lines with 21 Ashley Tait.
At 36.31, there was another scuffle over netminder 31 Danny Lorenz this time involving 32 Joel Poirier taking umbrage at 9 David Struch's attempts on the goalie. All the players ended up in a knot and Baz had words with 5 Gerad Adams who Poirier had taken a particular dislike to.
At 58.59, the Panthers called a time out and pulled their netminder.
The Knights goal at 59.07 was scored into an empty net.

Well, what can you say about that display tonight then? Inept? Lacking passion? Disgraceful I'd call it!
I have had the privilege of watching the Panthers for 20 years now and during that time I have witnessed the highs and lows of the men in Black & Gold. I remember the first year we reached the Play-Offs and didn’t get a single point – but at least the guys who turned out in that squad had pride in wearing the Black and Gold and would skate through brick walls for the team!
With one or two notable exceptions (Danny & Ashley stood out for me tonight), this current squad have no pride in the Panthers shirt. They are just journeymen hockey players who happen to have signed for Nottingham this year and will jump onto the transfer merry-go-round at the end of the season to see who they can screw for the most money next season.

I can only add to what other people have said so far. Tonight's "performance" was a disgrace. This was a crucial, do or die playoff game and what do we get, a bunch of so-called professional hockey players going through the motions, no desire, no passion, no organisation, nothing much of anything. With very few exceptions, those players I have seen tonight have proved to be unfit to be called Panthers, and as a loyal and proud Panthers fan I feel betrayed by what we have been offered. I never thought I would see the day when the famous Panthers spirit and attitude was dead but I think that day has come.

Gutless.....Inept .....Passionless
Well how else to describe it? Take a bow Danny Lorenz a guy who was hurting but managed to show up tonight and play as well as he could, hang your head everyone else. I thought Paul Adey would realise what play off hockey meant to us but obviously I was wrong. How can a guy come across as so non plused whilst his team crumbles around him. How can we get a team of (on paper) good players and make them play with as little passion and desire as was witnessed tonite? Is life at the Panthers so cushy you dont have to worry about losing your job by not putting any effort in. No doubt we'll wake up tomorrow to Morans standard excuses of either 'bad reffing' or 'the puck just wouldnt bounce for us'. Sure Carson was letting a lot go but if you want to win games you have to find a way round that, thats what seperates a good team from an average one. When the chips are down and we need to come up good and stand tall, what do we do?? WE QUIT. The program notes told us about how we need to stand tall and step up a gear, pity words on paper never seem to translate into action.

Well it's all been said last night but I didn't trust myself last night, I went & hit something hard instead! Totally agree that Adey & Damps have to go ... Paul, a great player and Panther legend but sure ain't no coach. Never liked Damps from the minute he came back again, that's when we started to lack passion and effort. As for the playrs - I'm speechless. 90% lack passion, guts and heart, all they need to make even half good hockey players. P.C. looks like a player already signed a contract for next year - somewhere else so he doesn't care, Calle had the worse game ever, caught out of position so many times and Joel was cr@p as normal (even with the C taken from him). Danny was a star tonight, you could see he was having trouble moving and getting down for the saves, Ash played well again and Norris for me had another good game although a little frustrated at being kept in D all night, he was screaming for the puck right in front of goal but the other donkeys wouldnt pass it. God, I'm fed up and we've still 2 more home games to go, roll on Saturday? Do I really have to go .... anyone want to buy a ticket???!

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Well apart from lying & saying "didn't we play well" there isn't anything really.
Gutless, woeful, completely inadequate. Roll on 9 o'clock Sunday cos my season will be all over then & right now I can't wait. All of a sudden painting my kitchen easter weekend doesn't seem so bad.

Quote from NEP
DIRECTOR of hockey Alex Dampier is refusing to write
off Nottingham Panthers' chances of reaching the championship finals, despite
last night's abysmal 3-1 defeat against a very ordinary London Knights
outfit.
Was this man watching the same team as I was last night?

[Dons three layers of asbestos clothing] I'm as gutted about losing as everyone else, but at the end of the first period I wasn't shaking my head denouncing the team as a load of lackadaisical incompetants. There were a heck of a lot more of them switched on than I've seen in ages. Hadden was throwing checks out there for God's sake ! Wallenberg was shooting every time he got the puck and the one he put away into the roof from a really narrow angle was a blinder. Ash was diving in at everything. Good God, even Barry was making himself useful, with some good corner work. Norris and Sjogren were getting involved in the physical stuff although it was possibly distracting them as well. Ok, it was disappointing that a big hole appeared in the defence that let a Knight stand unmarked on the back post and score, but it was shaping up OK.
Then the second period and things started to get messy at around the halfway mark. All the forward pressure we had wasn't linking up and leading to half as many shots on their net as it should have done. The only thing I can attribute it to is that at the start of the second Drouin and Ash switched lines. Drouin was put back with Jinman which I think we've been saying for ages is a mistake as they don't seem to play well together. Then the defence went wobbly and we're all over the shop again.
The third period was awful and if it wasn't for Niffty Paek doing his Custer's Last Stand thing at the back to face not one but two occasions where he was trying to protect Danny from two onrushing attackers at once, we'd have been 3-1 down a lot earlier. His poke checks and dive saves on both occasions were fantastic. Quite where everyone's passing skills went, I don't know. The second London goal was a bit of an odd one as it seemed to hit the back of a Knight in front of Danny (man in front of the crease ? Hmmmm, maybe we should try that) and loop over his head. A couple of people shouted man in the crease, but I wasn't convinced. And the last was an empty netter within seven seconds of us pulling our minder, again with Niffty desperately trying to spread himself between two attackers.
You may say, how can we have played well for any part of that game when it was London and we should've beaten them 10-0 and look at the injuries and Struch virtually needed crutches ? I can't say how bad we'd have looked if we'd played against better opposition because we didn't. I accept that London won and fair play, but I did see effort from a fair number of our guys. Not a lot of coherancy and team work, but effort yes. I agree that they struggled to find the motivation to fight back when they were looking down the gun barrel with a few minutes left, but that what Adey et al are supposed to be for.
Carson didn't lose it for us, although all mentions of the penalty Tripping seem to have been deleted from his copy of the rulebook. He was OK for him. Powerplays were dire on both sides and half the time i was waiting for ours to end so we could start playing properly again. Danny was a star as always. Joel tried hard as he always does, but yes even I'm starting to accept his limitations as a player.
Disagree by all means, but I enjoyed the start of the game and thought we would still win at that point. What happened after.....well, yes. If this were football, Adey and Damps would have been booted months ago really, wouldn't they ?

Well, that was..... well, cr*p really!
London did NOT look good (Struch especially looked well out of his depth), gawd knows why Trofinamess got MoM - he was fumbling all over the place. We should have slaughtered them.
Wallenberg, Norris, Jinman, Paek, Tait and Lorenz (ESPECIALLY Danny!) can IMHO hold their heads at least above the level of their belts today. The rest? - ranging from average down to appalling.
Some good individual efforts, I thought, but NO teamwork.
None whatsoever. Listen up lads, the LIONS pass better than that! A few
of the fancy moves came off, but the majority just fizzled. Bring back
the KISS rule - "Keep It Simple, Stupid!":-
Defenders defend, not piddle about.
Forwards go forward - not 'lone ranger', but AS A TEAM.
You have the puck, you see the goal - SHOOT IT! And drive
on at the net, go for the rebound, crash the net, disrupt the defence,
screen the goalie - don't stop until the whistle blows!
You see an opponent with the puck - check the booger!
Like Hadden was doing all night (!) - pity he wasn't shooting as well....
Protect your goalie - there were what... 3? 4? incidents
where London had a right nasty go at Danny... cynical attempt to injure
him more, no doubt.
As for the coaching/motivation..... gawd knows.
Here's an idea, though, for next season. Adey - forget
being coach... get fit, get trained and go out on the ice as Captain and
motivate the players ON THE ICE. Use your undoubted skills out there, in
the thick of it all. Get a coach who can motivate - like McSorley or Blaisdell,
but without the neanderthal leanings.
Mathematically speaking, we can still make the Play-Offs weekend - but we'd have to be good AND lucky. Try as I might, I'm not hopeful. Still going, though... because I love the sport.
Good things from last night?
Errmmm....
- Fats falling over on the ice (sorry Fats! ;-))
- the Hooters girls (wahay!)
- the "Hi Ho" song for Sac-o-shite....
- Wallenberg's gorgeous goal from a VERY tight angle
Not enough, not nearly enough.
But I'll still go at the weekend and cheer them on. I'd
be a hypocrite if I didn't. Fairy snuff?

Here goes...last night I saw no coaching with the exception
of Barry Nieckar pushing the guys to get "gritty" and threatening to eat
Adams for breakfast!! The handful of players that showed up - Tait (who
I'm not normally a fan of)
Barry (who worked hard every shift)
Lorenz (for holding his own despite being hung out to
dry on several occasions)
Paek ( for trying to stay solid in the back)
That's about it. As far as letting PC were the "C"...one
thought comes to mind -why? He has no captaincy skills what-so-ever. Barry
should be wearing it. When he speaks the guys seem to listen and he has
been consistantly working hard every playoff game. (I know I was at all
so far) Oh and I forgot to mention Hadden & Wallenberg showed 'heart'.
They shot that puck and fought through the defensmen any chance they could.
I'd be curious to find out the plus/minus of the P.C
/ Jinman line - I bet it's -50!!! Sort it out!!
I now feel somewhat better for ranting, but not much.
Oh and who was checking last night? Last I looked that
was part of a hockey game. Three people I counted - Barry, Hadden and Clayton.
I think these veterans need to teach a few things to these "younger" guys.
Last thing...I too was one of those people who clappped loudly when Moria,
Barry and I think it was Ashley skated back to the bench after a superb,
hard-working shift. Hope the others took note at what a good shift should
look like.

"That's about it. As far as letting PC were the "C"...one thought comes to mind -why? He has no captaincy skills what-so-ever." - and Poirier does?
I think Darren Maloney can hold his head up as well. He's not flashy, he doesn't go charging forward very often but he does his job at the back.
I agree that there was a distinct lack of coaching going on out there last night though. London, fair play to them, came & played a simple road game & we did nothing to alter our game when things weren't working. Not that it was a surprise - look at when Sheffield came with 8 men, a couple of dogs & Dave Simms mother. Did we try & keep the game tempo up? did we try & cut out stoppages like icing to tire their players? No, all Adey could do was moan in the press after about Sheffield playing spoiling tactics & slowing the game down.
I'm sorry if what I say upsets people because to be honest it upsets me to say it. I don't want to be slagging the coach/players or anyone else off but I feel I must.
One thing that worried me last night was that it might have been the straw that broke the camel's back for a lot of people. I've spoken to quite a few people since last night who've told me that they won't be back/buying a season ticket next season. It might just be a gut (over) reaction but a lot of these people were ones who've not said things like that before.
And what about the way the place emptied before the end? Just like being in Durham. Can't say I blamed anyone.
High points: my nephew got a balloon
the end of the game.
I take it they still did their lap of "honour"
