Notes:
Before the game a minute's silence was observed in memory of Vic Batchelder.
31 Danny Lorenz and 1 Eoin McInerney started in the nets. The Panthers starting lines were Poirier/Hadden/Wallenberg, Savoie/Jinman/Drouin, Nieckar/Tait/Moria. The Panthers' starting defensive lines were Maloney/Drolet, Pope/Carlsson, Evans/Carlsson and then rolled around to cover the suspended Clayton Norris's role.
12 Paul Kruse's Misconduct penalty at 33.22 resulted when he was called for Hooking and showed his annoyance by slamming the puck off the plexi.
The Steelers' third goal at 26.20 was controversial as it appeared that the Panthers' lone defender was dispossessed of the puck due to him being felled by a forearm to the back of the head. This left 19 Scott Allison and 12 Paul Kruse clear in on netminder 31 Danny Lorenz unopposed.
At 36.03 following the Steelers' fourth goal, the Panthers pulled netminder 31 Danny Lorenz and replaced him with 30 Pasi Hakkinen.
Halfway through the second period after a strong check by 5 Cal Benazic, 32 Joel Poirier had to leave the ice with concussion and did not take any further part in the game. The lines were rearranged with Tait joining Wallenberg and Hadden and 10 Randall Weber on the third line with Moria and Nieckar.
At 50.16, 19 Scott Allison went down after a strong check on the boards and play was stopped. He did not require treatment and play restarted shortly afterward.
The Steelers' sixth goal at 59.45 was scored into an empty net after the Panthers had pulled their netminder.
At 59.48 the Panthers called a time out and everyone wondered was it really worth it.

I have to say how very disappointed I was with our lack of ambition & determination. This seasons Sheffield team, while having some very good players, Lauer being one, IS NOT the team they had last year, yet we are lead to believe by the management of the Panthers that we have a BETTER team than last year but we STILL lose. Cr@p cr@p cr@p! The skill level may be higher but there is no hunger in the team. Either you want to win or you want a plane ticket back to Canada. Certain performances have proved we can win against anyone, motivation provided by the coach should be of a decent enough standard & force that jobs dont have to be threatened during a game, surly that is a desparate & last resort by a coaching team OUT OF THEIR DEPTH. One or both of the Dampier / Adey team needs to step up as a motivator or STEP DOWN. Ok rant over.

Your lot weren't that bad last night, they were passing
way better than us at times, and in the second we looked shattered. I was
impressed with #72 (Jinman, right?), he's a bit nifty.
Our defence needed wakin up at times, but i think Eoin
did well, even though he let four in.
And what was going on with that referee? Was he talkin
to someone in the crowd?! Your Stick Guy called a few of our penalties
i think ;)
Both teams played well, i think we were a bit more fired
up.

Just a few thoughts on last night: -
1. The game – I thought it was a cracking encounter with exciting end to end hockey and defending which is likely to give both coaches heart failure. Overall, I thought on the balance of play, Nottingham just about edged it and draw would have probably been a fair result – although I aint complaining. I didn’t really notice the referee, which I always consider to be a good sign – he let the game flow. There did seem to be some dispute about our 3rd goal, but from where I sit (right at the very back) I couldn’t see what happened.
2. The teams – a) Nottingham – I think you look a much
better outfit than last year and definitely have the players who could
mount a challenge for silverware. From last night’s game, I see your main
problem being the quality of netminding (Lorenz looks dodgy) and your inability
to take chances. Sort that out and you’ll do ok – the effort was definitely
there.
b) Sheffield – I’m still not convinced by our team this
year, they look a bit lightweight to me, although I suppose I’m comparing
them with last years team which is a little unfair (that was a one off).
I think we’ll have solid netminding, but defensively we’re going to struggle
a bit, still, time will tell.
3. The crowd – I thought the atmosphere was excellent and both sets of supporters did themselves credit. The minutes silence for Vic was impeccably observed.

Cracking game last night, unfortunately if we don't come
out to play the 1st period we will lose more than we win. That said I was
really pleased by the way the lads battled until the very end, and i thought
Neickar was superb in the final period by pumping the lads up and still
believing we could win.
At the end of the day, better finishing by the Steelers
and poor netminding my Danny Lorenz (he was due a bad game after being
so consistent so far) led to our downfall, but I think we can all take
heart from that performance and things certainly look better than they
did last week!!

Just back from the HOS, - man what a game!
I have to say that if the Panthers can play that way
for the rest of the season, then you're definitely in contention for some
sort of silverware.
Your passing and vision was STREETS ahead of ours, and
the speed skating from several of your roster left our 'D' for dead more
than once.
Despite this though, our win was just about deserved,
as the deciding factors were effectively netminding and clinical finishing.
Lorenz let you down quite heavily in the first department, while some of
your forwards were extremely wasteful when well -placed in front of the
net, - Nieckar missed two very good chances eg, but other than that, he
had a good game, I do have to admit it.
Of the goals you did score, the pick was Haddens slapshot
for the first, - it was hit with such venom that McInerney simply never
saw it..indeed it was on its way out of the net before he ( or we ) knew
what had happened. Despite this Mac came up with some HUGE stops and our
forwards, ( Kruse and Allison in particular,) played absolute blinders,
scoring 2 apiece.
All round then an immensely enjoyable game of relatively
clean hockey...the referee was equally farcical to both teams...you were
unlucky to come away with nothing.
...another time you won't.. I can tell you that for damned
certain

Nearly all of the players were absolutley fantastic tonight, they took a while to get going but we dominated after that. Lorenz could have played better but the reason for the 6 in the GA column was Brent Pope. He was personally at fault for 3 of the steelers goals and he was on the ice for at least one more, maybe 2. Everyone else seems to have got there act together but Pope seems to think that coz he's married Mich Stevensons daughter he can do what he likes.
Jinman, Drouin, hadden, maloney, etcetcetc all class. Porier didn't return after the first. AJ had some good shifts near the end. Cloutman too had a pretty good game after going over a few of the decisions. He didn't affect the game which was nice.
great game, we should have won, great noise from the fans
all game, steelers had few chances but the made them count, something that
we need to work on.
