Notes:

31 Danny Lorenz and 6 Jonas Eriksson started in nets.  The Panthers' starting forward lines were Drouin/Jinman/Wallenberg, Tait/Poirier/Sjogren, Neickar/Moria/Savoie.  The Panthers' starting defensive lines were Pope/Carlsson, Paek/Norris with Drolet rolling round with the rest of the D-men to cover the injured Darren Maloney.

Captains 32 Joel Poirier and 26 Ivan Droppa exchanged flags at the start of the game.

At 16.00, 4 Brent Pope pushed 20 Jean-Francois Quintin over at a face off and they had a scuffle.  No penalties were awarded.

At 24.09 there was a scuffle in the crease and 24 Jimmy Drolet ended up on the deck with 20 Jean-Francois Quintin.  This degenerated into a fight with Drolet throwing a few punches at the prone Quintin on the ice.  Both men received 2 minutes for Roughing and Drolet got another 2 minutes for Holding.

The Panthers Too Many Men penalty at 31.48 resulted when 44 Barry Neickar wasn't quick enough off the ice after calling on 32 Joel Poirier to replace him on a line change on the fly.

At 33.49, 29 Chris Bartolone tried to play the puck around the boards, but the puck struck 61 Christian Sjogren in the face.  Play stopped and Sjogren left the ice clutching his mouth.  He was able to rejoin play a couple of shifts later.

At 51.01, 29 Chris Bartolone executed what appeared to be a check from behind into the boards which floored 77 Calle Carlsson.  A scuffle ensued as Carlsson lay hurt on the ice with 4 Brent Pope going for his favourite 20 Jean-Francois Quintin.  Bartolone received 2 minutes for Boarding and Carlsson was able to continue after receiving treatment on the ice.

At around 58.00, Dusseldorf pulled their netminder and the Panthers called a time out at the next break in play.

A very enjoyable game.  Boy did Brent Pope take a dislike to Number 20 Quintin ?  They had handbags at a face off early on and it was any excuse after that.  When Calle got Boarded it was 'Well 20 didn't do it, but I'll jump on him anyway'.

Yet another Too Many Men penalty.  Apparently Bracknell had a bench clearance tonight, but some of our line changes are starting to look like bench clearances !

Drouin looked very much out of sorts for some reason and Dusseldorf's shorthanded goal was his fault.  Actually it wasn't, it was the fault of whoever keeps putting him on point when we're on the powerplay.  Yes, he can score from the blue line, but if the play breaks down and he has to defend he's a total liability in that position.  PC Drouin is not in any way shape or form a defenseman.  Most great forwards arn't.

Comedy Moment Of The Match: The DJ only daring to play 'We're Gonna Win' after the end buzzer.

I enjoyed that!
And not just 'cos we won......

Not having seen much in the way of European hockey (which everyone says is much more 'skill' based than N.American), I must admit that I was a bit surprised by the similarity in style to ours - at least until I saw all the Canadian names on the roster.... (thinking of names, their captain is amusingly named Ivan Droppa - good job he wasn't the netminder.....)

Iserlohn seemed to me to have more of a measured passing game (and they were good at it, too!) - I thought Thursday's game was a strange mixture of intense and lacklustre - on both sides. Dusseldorf, on the other hand, were MUCH more entertaining to watch - their energy level was through the roof, although this did seem to cause quite a few fumbles and turnovers. A hard-fought game tonight, and I thought an admirable win for Nottingham.

On the goals - although I thought Jinman's was a good 'un, Carlsson's had to be the best for me. But was it definitely Sjogren that got the first? - could have sworn it was Poirier...
Their first (short-handed) goal should NEVER have happened - what a cock-up in our own zone... no complaints with their second, though - all credit to 'em.

Good choice for MoM I thought - Ash is definitely back on the red meat diet! But what on earth has happened to PC Drouin? - we know he's top class material, but there certainly seems to be something seriously wrong with him... :-((

Well, we got our mandatory Too Many Men bench minor again - was reading Powerplay in the intervals, and it said that (before this week) clocked up 60 MINUTES in bench penalties - nearly twice as much as any other team. Definite room for improvement there.
