Notes:
30 Petter Sandstrom and 35 David Trofimenkoff started in nets. The Panthers' starting forward lines were Allison/Hadden/Nieckar, Cadotte/Jinman/Purves, Elders/Wood/Clarke. The Panthers' starting defensive lines were Paek/Charron, Hussey/Thompson, Paek/Taubert.
At 19.23, 13 Dody Wood and 94 Dennis Maxwell scuffled on the boards. They were pushed apart by the stripeys, but Wood went for Maxwell again. Again he was pulled back, but no penalty was given.
At 25.28, 94 Dennis Maxwell went down hurt in the corner after a heavy check on the boards. As he was trying to limp away, a fight broke out behind the net between 44 Barry Nieckar and 5 Gerad Adams in an apparently unrelated incident. The two men traded blows with Nieckar shading it although Adams pulled his shirt halfway over his shoulders. They eventually ended up wrestling on the deck. Both received 5 minutes for Fighting with Adams getting another 2 minutes for the original offence of Holding Nieckar on the boards.
At 28.36, a fight broke out centre ice behind the play between 13 Dody Wood and 20 Chris Slater. Slater, who had picked the fight, was liberally beaten about the head by Wood who stopped hitting him only to change hands. Slater barely got two swings away and ended up on the deck dangling from his collar which Wood still had hold of. Both received 5 minutes for Fighting.
At 31.00, 19 Scott Allison had a disagreement with 21 Ian McIntyre. Allison got two minutes for Roughing him, but McIntyre walked away escaping being penalised.
There was uproar at 31.47 when 21 Ian McIntyre checked 34 John Purves from behind dumping him head first into the boards at speed. There was a big scuffle and McIntyre eventually received 2+10 for Checking From Behind.
At 38.58, 44 Barry Nieckar had some strong words with 5 Gerad Adams and following him to the bench to continue the discussion. The stripeys marshalled him away, only for 15 Briane Thompson to take up the baton. Both sides were separated without any blows being traded.
30 Petter Sandstrom's Leaving The Crease penalty at 44.59 was a bit of a mystery. No one watching seemed to be able to spot when he had actually left the crease. Sandstrom had just cleared the puck out over the boards, but it had hit the plexi first. Whether Sandstrom had stepped marginally out of his crease to make Carson aware the puck had hit the boards first and it therefore wasn't a Delay Of Game penalty is unknown, but Sandstrom got 2 minutes.
At 48.07, 5 Gerad Adams was battling with 34 John Purves to get along the boards after the puck. Purves shouldered Adams off, but had the butt end of his stick high and very close to Adams face in doing so. Adams was incensed and tried to jump on Purves as the Panthers Captain, seemingly unaware, made off with the puck and set up a shot on goal. After the play, Adams went for Purves and a scuffle involving most of the players on the ice erupted. It was largely a big wrestling match, but during this 13 Dody Wood apparently left the bench and became involved. Whether he came onto the ice at the end of the play for a line change and then joined in is unknown, but the result was that Wood received 2+10+Game for Leaving The Bench. Adams received 2 minutes for Roughing.
The Knights' goal at 51.40 was scored on a delayed penalty with their netminder pulled after 18 Kristian Taubert conceded a Holding penalty behind the goal.
At 55.17, Referee Carson had to call a stop in play as he was injured. He had already been floored ten minutes earlier after 6 Kim Ahlroos collided with him and this collision with another Knight winded him totally. Carson was able to continue after a break. The stripeys didn't fare well all night as earlier 44 Barry Nieckar had accidently clouted Linesman Coenen over the head while trying to catch a head height puck at speed.
At 55.38, 19 Jeff Hoad fell over 19 Scott Allison's stick behind the play. From the deck, he jabbed at Allison's legs and was called for Slashing immediately. Hoad then tried to start a fight with Allison, but Allison demurred laughing to let Hoad go to the sin bin on his own for 2 minutes.
Around 58.30, the Knights pulled their netminder.
At 58.51, the Knights called a time out. At the restart, they made a successful stick call on 7 Eric Charron for a 2 minute penalty.

Thought our powerplays were much improved from last week (they couldn't get much worse), although there was still reluctance to screen the netminder. There's a lot more to Cadotte than I realised at the start of the season. The guy really does get stuck in, regardless of him not being one of the big lads. Shame he couldn't score on the breakaway, but then Trofinamess seems much improved too.
Hands up all those who noticed Sandstrom, our back up, was in the net.....Anyone ? I certainly didn't. I'm very impressed with our goaltending duo.
Thought Carson had a good game. I didn't have a problem with any of the regular calls he made on us, but where did Sandstrom's leaving the crease penalty come from ? Did anyone see him leave the crease ? Didn't see Dody leave the bench in the fight either, but I'm told he did in which case, yeah that's a throwing out. Should've known better.
Agreed, Newham - Dody wasn't very good. Distracted is the word and this tends to affect a number of our players. Having said that Dody did give Slater a complete slapping for our entertainment. I can't remember the last time I'd seen Baz fight either. Think he shaded it with Adams.
Comedy Moment Of The Match: Well, its always fun to see
the stripeys get bumped, but I thought the calls for someone to inflict
a more serious injury to Carson were slightly over the top. The best one
was where Baz tries to catch a puck at head height and clouted Coenen over
the head. Both men skated off laughing though. Bet Baz would've got thrown
out if he'd floored him.

My 1st vist to your arena and i found the place good but
a little compact for me. The bloke who announces the players i could not
understand him, and over all a poor entrance. (music) etc. The DJ was Awful.
When there was breaks in play it seem an age for him to play some music
and some lasted less than 3 secs when then break in play was over a minute.
When he wasnt playing music "adverts" I know the team needs revenue but
it ruins the atmosphere. All in all 2/10. Panthers OK desrved to win no
problem with that

From what Ive heard, Sandstrom got a 'leaving the crease' penalty because he left his stick behind - and that supposedly counts as 'throwing the stick'?? Sounds like utter cobblers to me, and I hope there's a more sensible explanation....
The one that really makes me laugh was Dody getting chucked out - didn't he come on as the 6th man after Sandstrom was pulled off for the delayed penalty on London? So - yeah, he left the bench - but as a legitimate player on the ice!
Apart from that, Carson did seem to call it pretty well throughout. Couldn't help laughing at him taking a tumble. At least it wasn't Moray "Look! Look! Notice me!" Hanson....
After a shaky-ish start, Pietila & Sandstrom are really starting to look like one hell of a duo in nets. It's nice to know we've got the security of two top-class goalies....
Kendra - I know what you mean about Cadotte - he's really getting into this full-on bodycheck stuff, isn't he? Getting a bit of the Simon Hunts is he?
I have to say, that line of Jinman, Cadotte & Purves
is looking awesome. Cadotte for uber-speed and scoring, Jinman for speed,
scoring & some wonderful set-ups, and Purves is so steady he complements
the other two perfectly.

According to the NEP he got it for not asking Carson if
he could go to the bench. A bit picky but that's the rule.

LOL! I can just picture it.... Sandstrom (or any other
goalie) sticks his hand up in the air - "Please Sir! Can I leave my crease,
Sir?"
;-)>
Better not try it with Hanson though - he'd probably
give a penalty for impersonating the ref! (Hanson's Rules - no talking,
no contact, no sticking your arm up....)

Just seen on bbc's teletext that Carson has admitted he
was wrong to give Dody Wood a GM on sat', nite as he has now realised that
he was the 6th player on the ice during a delayed penalty call!! so it's
nice to see a ref actually admit to his own incompetence!!! ;-)
