Notes:

47 Ryan Bach and 31 Vitaly Yeremaev started in nets.

In the first minute of the game, 28 Paul Kruse was sent head over heels near the boards.  One of the Dynamo players had ducked a check and sent him flying over the top.

At 17.36 there was a scuffle near the Dynamo bench.  17 Peter Leboutillier appeared to have tried to spear someone on the bench and 21 Alexander Savtchenkov elbowed him back.  Leboutillier got 2+2+10 and Savtchenkov was thrown out.

A scuffle broke out around and actually in the Dynamo net at 28.55.  26 Ron Shudra and 30 Alexander Stepanov tangled up and ended up inside the cage with the Russian pinned on the ice.  Shudra threw off the net and the stripeys pulled them apart.  28 Paul Kruse also got involved with 4 Oleg Orekhovski in the vicinity.  All the combatants received 2+2 except Orekhovski who got only 2 minutes, giving the Russians a powerplay.  Stepanov left the ice after the fight as he appeared to have damaged his arm, an injury that would prevent him from playing against the Storm two days later.

At 31.03, netminder 47 Ryan Bach went ape at referee Carson about some sort of Tripping incident behind his net which went unpunished and Carson gave Bach a Misconduct for the abuse.  Bach then chased Carson out of his crease and bumped him in protest.  A linesman stepped in and an argument ensued as the stripeys tried to placate Bach.  No further penalties were levied, but Steelers coach Mike Blaisdell took Bach off and replaced him with 1 Eoin McInerney immediately.

There was an ugly incident at 59.27 when 28 Paul Kruse decided he'd had enough of the game.  The unlucky recipient of his ire was 2 Marat Davydov (described in the programme as 'An even-tempered, calm, good-natured, down-to-earth, cheerful character' !).  Kruse took a golf swing at Davydov's leg with his his stick, smashing it completely in two.  He then dropped the gloves and Davydov, who looked like he really didn't want any of it, reluctantly dropped his gloves as well.  Kruse got a few punches in, but Davydov wrestled him and clung on for dear life.  Kruse then pulled off Davydov's helmet and smashed him over the head with it.  He looked like he was about to repeat this action, but thought better of it as Davydov was now holding his head where he'd been struck.  So Kruse dropped the helmet and carried on punching him.  The stripeys jumped in as Davydov was in no state to defend himself and both men received 2 minutes for Roughing and Kruse was thrown out with a Match penalty for Excessive Rough Play.  The supposed impetus for Kruse's actions was said to be two Russians attempting to 'submarine' him.  I saw a few Dynamo players ducking out of checks and clipping opponents throughout the game in a way which probably should have been called, but the two man incident must've happened some time before he reacted as there was no one anywhere near Kruse and Davydov when Kruse flipped.

Carson didnt lose us the game, but he certainly lost his cool...be interesting to see what comes out of this particular performance of him clouting Bach..more a case of getting it in just in case I reckon...
Bad slash/trip at the back of the nets, Carson ignores it and Bach goes ballistic..we were at the other end and we saw it, so how Carson missed it in front of him i'll never know..the guy just wasnt quick enough all night to keep up with what was going off on the puck, behind the puck and around the puck..I dont slate refs as a rule, but the guy tonight was abysmal...just think he was up to the task...

The game itself...fast, physical, and yes quite niggly..all sorts of stuff occurring mainly aimed at Kruse...they had obviously done their homework as he is becoming a bit of a loose cannon of late..First challenge was a very low submarine type one..which in a friendly wasnt on and it kind of set the tone..
Some wonderful stuff from both sides in the first period..hitchy remarking that basically the first ten mins were a powerplay to Dynamo..after that we came back into it and should have scored on numerous occasions, dinging the post twice (and it has to be said that the russians had similar number of chances to bob one in..

Started to degrade a wee bit in the 2nd..sloppy D let Dynamo in for the first 2 goals and then we decided to just play the game out...it was at this point I started to question the sense of sticking the game slap dab into our rather hectic Xmas schedule..but there yer go..

Carson decided to impose himself at this point and at one point in the game had 4 steelers players in the box...a bit comical really cos there appeared to more in the penalty box than on our bench..if Blaiser and KM hadnt of been there it would have looked like Doncaster on a Saturday night !!!

Then we had the Kruse incident...the russian involved dropped a quite badly timed and aimed submarine in a few mins from the end, whilst leading well...dozy thing to do in this sort of game, and to the wrong man...somebody who had been prodded and poked all night..I'd taken a special interest in Kruser and he did suffer an inordinate amount of grief..thats hockey tho and he righted himself, turned on the russian and whacked him on the padding with his stick and then pummelled the poor sod...shouldnt have done it, but there yer go...both of em were just plain stupid if you ask me and both should have gone at that point..

all in all an interesting evening..i guess you lot had stirred em up a bit...think the Storm will get a sound pasting on tonights performance.  We were talking at the end of the first and asked the same questions you lot have asked...WHY CANT WE PLAY LIKE THAT ALL THE BLOODY TIME !!!!

I went to the Sheffield game last night and yes, it was great fun to watch the russians whop them 5-1 and have the russian lads teach us the DEE-NAH-MO-MOSS-QWAH chant, but the game was somewhat marred by the ending.

Putting aside Bach doing a carbon copy of Danny's belly bounce on Carson and only getting a 10 minute Misconduct. Putting aside Leboutillier attempting to spear someone on the russian bench and the russian getting thrown out for elbowing him back. Kruse was a disgrace.

I know one of the russian players ducked when he came in for a check near the start and sent him flying head over heels and there were a couple more times when they seemed to duck checks in a similar fashion. I can't believe this excuses what he did in retaliation which I reckon was much more likely to cause injury.

Kruse has a set to with the Dynamo #2, turns and does a golf swing slash across the guys leg so hard it shatters the stick completely in two. He then drops the gloves. The #2 is about Brebant's size and obviously doesn't want to know, but reluctantly drops his gloves too. Kruse gets some shots in and then the #2 wrestles him and hangs on for dear life. The stripeys are trying to dive in, but Kruse gets annoyed that the guy won't stand toe to toe and decides his only recourse is to pull the russians helmet off and smash him over the head with it. The russian is holding his head where he was hit and Kruse drops the helmet (Thank God for small mercies !) to get some more punches in. This is ridiculous. You just can't do things like that. Does anyone know if this was a santioned game and Kruse's Match penalty will be enforced in the league ?

And at least when our Baz went over the top and elbowed out that Huddinge player, we didn't cheer him off the ice. In fact as I recall, we applauded the announcement of his Game penalty after he'd gone.

I may well go to the Dynamo v Manc game though as there was some good hockey last night. They didn't check half as much against Sheffield as they did against us though.

sorry Kendra i have to take you to task on the cheering off of Kruse..the only people that cheered him off were the little muppets who have taken to inhabiting 103...most of us were a wee bit erm, bemused by the whole incident...

Comparing Bach and Lorenz's brush with authority is a realistic issue..Lorenz belly bounced our Andy..Our Andy actually clocked Bach on the upper body...no belly contact made by either of em..

Funniest bit of the night was for me anyway, Rickety Ron Shudra hammering that Russian for the elbow, spear, trip, slash and/or high stick that the Dynamo lad did...10 years of Steelers I aint seen Rickety throw a decent punch until tonight...thought it was gonna be a funny game when that happened..

Fair enough, Scuff. I was sat in Block 102 when the Kruse incident was going on and all I could see and hear was the whole of Block 103 stood up cheering. May well have made it seem like most of the Steeler crowd applauded his actions.
