Getting to Fuerteventura / Where to Stay

Fuerteventura is one of the 13 islands (which include Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife) that make up the Canary Islands, which are located 60 to 180 miles off the North-West coast of Africa. There are quite a few airports in the UK that fly to this destination. Luton, Bristol, Stanstead, Cardiff, Birmingham, Leeds, Teeside, Newcastle and Glasgow fly on Wednesdays only, with Gatwick and Manchester flying on Saturdays as well. Depending on where your flying from the journey can take between 3.5 and 4.5 hours.

Most tourist operators including Airtours and Cosmos offer holidays here in either Self-Catering or All-Inclusive accomodation, in either Caleta De Fuste or Corralejo. Obviously if possible, you really want to be staying in Corralejo if surfing, as Caleta De Fuste is not in the North. So if your booking a family holiday, I'd advise you to stay at the Bristol Playa Appartments which are the closest appartments to the 'North Track' and they have a wide selection of activities to keep the kids happy. I have stayed there a couple of times with my family and have no complaints about the place. Also worth checking out are the Dunas Club Appartments which are situated overlooking the Harbour in Corralejo. Remember alot of the new appartments in Corralejo are being built on the outskirts of the town, which is about 3kms from the 'North Track' and nearest surf spot.

If your going out there on your own or with some mates, especially between September and November or January and March, it's worth considering taking a flight only out there and finding somewhere to crash out there when you arrive. Off-season theres plenty of appartments available which are cheap. If your on an even tighter budget try the Sol Y Mar Hostel in the centre of Corralejo which is two streets down from the Dino Supermarket or 50 yards from childrens playground, which can be booked by contacting Ben or Rachel at 'Flagbeach Home Page' who will arrange this for you. It's possible to get a flight for £100 and accomodation for £60 for the week, making it one cheap, warm surfing holiday. Who really wants to be in UK in winter !! Check out 'Bargain Holidays', 'Rainbow-Flights' and 'Traveldata's' websites, clickable from here. Also if looking for family holiday check out 'Hesperia Hoteles' website, ('Bristol Playa Appartments' belongs to this group) and see what deal you can strike. It's cheaper than the brochure!!
