Type X. Aerogramme with an imprinted design, denominated 3 leones, of which the author has seen scans only, kindly forwarded to me by readers of these pages in the USA and Denmark (See illustration - courtesy of Postal Hysteria). |
| A scan of a similar aerogramme, but denominated Le. 9 was also forwarded to me by a kind collector in the United States. This aerogramme had adhesives added to make up the 100 Leone required postage to the USA at time of use (13 MR 92). The Le 9 imprinted stamp is identical to the Le 3, except that the figure "3" is relaced by a figure "9". The same design & colours were used for the adhesive stamps in the same denominations, presumably reflecting the postal tariff, previously 3 Leones, having increased to 9 Leones.
The second 3 Le aerogramme is addressed to France and the postmark is dated 2 Feb 88. The rate was Le. 3, no further stamps were added. |

Type Y. An example of an aerogramme with an imprinted design, denominated Le. 50, uprated to Le. 100 by addition of adhesives (See illustration at left).
|
| A similar aerogramme, but denominated 150 leones exists, of which the author possesses a front only. Both aerogrammes had adhesives added to make up the required postage rate at time of use. The Le. 50 imprinted stamp uses the same design as the Le. 50 adhesive issue. As with the change from 3 to 9 leones the only change is the amendment of the denomination to Le. 150, everything else (including the illustration of the Freetown cotton tree) is as the Le.50 denomiantion. The change of colour used for th ecountry name is reflected in the aerogrammes, the higher denominations show the country name in blue. The simulated perforations used on the first aerogrammes have been superseded by a straight line border on the Le. 50 and Le 150 releases. The other changes, evident from the illustrations, are the change of size and the addition of an illustration of the Freetown cotton tree. If any reader knows of any particular significance of this tree I would be grateful if they would share this information with me. |
The only aerogrammes from Uganda that the author has seen have all borne adhesive stamps only. No sighting of an aerogramme from Uganda with imprinted stamp in these designs has been reported to date.
I would welcome any comments, corrections or suggestions on the above. I am also interested in filling the gaps in my collection (see my want's list page).
