Stop Press

A recent request for confirmation of the Scott catalogue number for the Sierra Leone Type B 100 Leone brought back a response that surprised me. I was told that the stamp did not exist in perforation 12 according to Scott's listings - only in perforation 14 or 12 x 12.5

It turns out that the issues which I have been describing as Perforation 12 (following the listings in Stanley Gibbons esteemed Part 1 catalogue) are not strictly perf 12 after all. I butted a horizontal perforation on one stamp up against a vertical perforation on another and hey presto - they did not marry up.

I am unable to locate one of my perforation gauges in amongst all my stamps and albums etc - tut tut. However, as soon as I come accross one the first thing I will do is to measure the perforation on these stamps and let people know the truth.
