Dinner time

Eli loves his food (thank G-d) and is actually quite a clean child when it comes to eating, since he doesn't want to waste anything which he could possibly put in his mouth (Mommy and Daddy obviously don't feed him enough...).

In yet another faked up picture, We see Eli drinking from a cup on his own. This is actually just a little beyond him, so far, though he can hold a "sippy-cup" alone, and will drink from a cup with help.

Eli used to eat all his meals while sitting in this swing, but has recently graduated to a high-chair. His favourite foods include...well, just about everything, though he has recently qualified as a true Israeli child and started eating "Bamba" - note for the uninitiated: Bamba is a sort of peanut-butter-flavoured corn-puff. It melts on your tongue and then sticks tenaciously to the roof of your mouth. For some reason, kids love it.

Family Ties

Eli - in the funky blue sunhat, sitting with his older cousin (confusingly, also called Eli) on Yom Ha'atzma'ut (Israel Independence Day). This picture was taken at the Berkovits/Berkley/Hofmann family barbeque, this year held in Efrat.

Supporting the two Elis is "big" Eli's Daddy, Jonny Berkley. In the background, Debra Berkovits with one of the Komar twins. P.S. Now (at 1 year) there isn't quite so much difference between "big" Eli and "little" Eli, at least as far as weight goes - finally all our Eli's eating is paying off.

Smiley Face

This picture was taken by Eli's Zeidy, on a trip to Israel. Eli's smile is really coming along, with new teeth appearing every week.

As of 8th November 1999 (Eli's birthday). Eli can now walk, and waddles around all over with a huge grin on his face. He also says a few words - "Daddy" (when he wants a toy), "Mama" (when he wants a little sympathy), "Ummmm" (when he wants food) and "No!" (when he wants to be left alone).

It's clear that Eli is fairly goal-oriented in his personality at present, but he has also learned to hand things to people and say "Todah" ("thank you" in Hebrew), which shows he is trying to teach others the correct way to speak.
