Welcome to the Springford and Springbett Family
History Site.
Hello I'm Gordon Springford; I began tracing the genealogy and
history of the Springford family in 1971. I discovered that the
Springfords once used the surname Springbatt as well as
Springford and that they came from the Vale of Pewsey in
Wiltshire, England.
In the 18th century families were found in a number of Wiltshire
villages and a few in Bath, Bristol and London. The 'alias'
Springbat(t) fell into disuse in about 1800. However the
Springbats of Wilsford (near Pewsey) never used the name
Springford and their name survives today as Springbett.
The family is now represented across the English speaking world,
but the name remains uncommon. I have collected parish register
entries, wills, birth, marriage and death indexes, census
returns, grave sites and similar information. I am keen to assist
anyone who wants to know more about the family and to add to my
