The Grave of Isaac & Emma Springford
Melksham Churchyard Wiltshire

Apologies for the poor photographs the inscription shows:

Isaac Springford died 19 December 1874 aged 67

Emma Springford died 15 March 1867 aged 55

Isaac appears to have been born in Melksham in about 1808. The most likely canidates for his parents are Isaac Springford and Mary Perrott who married in Melksham in 1803. They had a son called William who would have been born about 1837. In the 1851 census he was living at Semington, Wiltshire with his mother Emma. It shows that he was born in Bristol and aged 13 at the time of the census. His mother was head of the house and there appear to be no other siblings. Emma aged 41 was born in Devizes. At the time of the 1851 census living in Hilperton Wiltshire was Isaac Springford aged 43 head of his own household ( ie alone) he was aged 43 and given as born in Melksham Wiltshire. The grave of William, Elizabeth and Mary Springford shown on this site and which has been removed was in the same vacinity as this grave and so they are almost certainly from the same family. The marriage of Isaac and Emma in the parish record marriages was on 8th Feb 1832 they married in St Mary's Devizes, she was Emma Bayley a spinster of that parish. He was a sojourner.
